The small village of Spark Bridge is a couple of miles away from the village of Greenodd, which has a selection of shops next to th River Crake, whilst just five miles away is the ancient market town of Ulverston. Ulverston is famous for its street markets and festivals, and boasts a wide range of shops and various leisure facilities. It is also home to the only Laurel and Hardy museum in the world. This is a great location for a walking holiday, and within driving distance are a number of attractions including, Grizedale, Coniston, Windermere, Hawkshead and Beatrix Potter's Hill Top, as well as the beautiful Furness Coast, with its golden beaches and good birdwatching opportunities. The cottage itself was homely and cosy. Lovely views of the beck from the windows at the rear. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well kitted out. The cottage is dog friendly, downstairs. There were no signs of this however. Our own springer-poo enjoyed his stay too. Some minor things to be aware of, to help your stay go smoothly: 1. Whilst you can park a car out front, whilst just unloading (and leaving space for passing traffic) due to the lane coming to a very acute angle with the main (but very quiet) road going through the village, I got an earful from a local mature lady, telling me I was causing an obstruction. It did spoil my day a little as Iâd made every effort not to. I would therefore recommend you try to park further down the lane, where there are 2 spaces at the side of the road next to the bins. 2. The 2 local pubs look nice, however, one had just re-opened under new management and not yet serving food; the other was not open at all in the 3 days we were there. These are not things that the owner could do anything about, but just to be aware of - pubs probably more functional come the summer!

Access to garden down steep cellar steps which was not explained in property details. For elderly people prohibitive. No instructions were left for operating television. We we were not familiar with Sky controller. Had problems all week. Essential to provide rubber Bath mat when shower is over the bath. Where were the pretty pots of flowers at the front of property as shown? First impressions disappointing. Cottage is cosy and nice spacious kitchen. Beds reasonably comfortable. Bathroom very cramped. Would not return for above reasons.

Accommodation was comfy and the garden backing onto the river was very much a plus. Excellent location for exploring the southern end of the lakes. Three slight negatives:- 1) Strong smell of dog in the hallway when we arrived which didn't disappear during our stay (hence the mark down for cleanliness). 2) We could have done with a welcome pack e.g. leaflets/brochures for the attractions in the area and local knowledge/recommendations about what to visit. 3) If the nearby pub (Royal Oak) hadn't been closed for refurbishment, which meant we could use their car park overnight, it would have been very difficult to park near the cottage without causing blockages on the road and/or pavement which would upset the locals.
