About this property

Looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy world or searching for the perfect romantic holiday home? Larch Cottage could just be the place for you. This detached one-bedroom cottage is sweetly nestled in the tiny hamlet of Hawkshead Hill, midway between picturesque Hawkshead and stunning Tarn Hows. Its tranquil setting is ideal for those looking for a quiet retreat in the heart of the Lake District.

Walk into the entrance hall, store your outdoor gear and step into your refined and cosy sitting room and note the light pouring through the dual aspect windows. Walk over to look out at neighbouring fields and tumbling stream before relaxing on your comfy and stylish sofa by the attractive fireplace with warming log effect gas fire. Find your neat and contemporary kitchen, perfect for the home chef, before walking into your beautiful, large bedroom with king size bed and two lovely windows revealing peaceful views over the adjoining fields. Your attractive, modern bathroom has a bath with shower over. All the main rooms in the house have fitted carpets.

You holiday home is ideally placed to tour the Lake District by car, so why not set off for the day to discover the area’s charming villages and hamlets, sparkling lakes and dramatic valleys. A four-mile drive will take you to Grizedale, where can explore the forest on two wheels, foot or horse-back, or test your nerve on a Go Ape course. Walk half a mile to the magnificent Tarn Hows to experience its quiet beauty.

At the end of your busy day relax in your garden and watch the sun setting as you recall your day together.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Very clean and comfortable. Thank you for the bottle of wine that was waiting for us on our arrival! Only minor criticisms are that the WiFi was very slow, and a spare bin bag would have been handy. Overall though, we really enjoyed our stay at Larch Cottage.

It was very clean and well presented. And the bed was comfortable. Lovely location. The only downside was, there was no table and chairs outside. We like our morning coffee outside. On the pictures and in the description, table and chairs are seen and mentioned. Not there in reality. This was the only downside. We will be coming back soon though

The kitchen is very well fitted and all the equipment makes for an easy break away. The gas fire in the lounge is superb. The area is beautiful and there are a lot of walks to do from the cottage. The atmosphere in Hawkshead is lovely and the pubs are friendly. The weather was awful on our break but that’s the Lake District.
