This traditional Lakeland home is set in a wonderful area amidst the woodlands of Grizedale Forest next to the river.
Grizedale offers activities for all ages - the adventure playground, discovering the many sculptures hidden in the forest, walking, or perhaps a challenging bike ride.
This rather eccentric and quirky property on the first two floors of this very large house, (owners occupy top floor - via separate access) provides excellent value for family groups.
The Eagles Head at Satterthwaite is less than a mile away and serves food each evening. A short drive away are Hawkshead, Ambleside, Coniston and Ulverston providing an interesting variety of shops, places to eat and cinemasThere are two lounges with open fires - they are spacious and very individually furnished - one even offers a piano and guitar for musical evenings! There is no T.V. but the owners have provided a selection of books and games for your entertainment.
The dining room has a large dining table - a perfect setting for large family meals.
The Kitchen is equipped with cooker, microwave and large larder fridge. A separate utility room has a freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and downstairs w.c. and shower.
There are 5 Bedrooms - 3 doubles and 2 singles all with wonderful views of the lovely expansive garden which surrounds the house

Outside there is plenty of space with lovely expansive lawns and scrubs and plenty of garden furniture. The garden is edged by the river which can supply lots of fun on hot days with pools and cascades, however young children will require supervision at all times.

Terrific location for a private getaway. Area perfect for outdoor activities but pack your wet weather gear as it seems to have it's own micro-climate. Great base for the South Lakes and the stunning Ambleside / Grasmere area though nice to be able to escape the hoards back to White Lodge. House cosy and comfortable, basic but clean and tidy and a good size. Owners upstairs but entirely unobtrusive.

I had read in previous reviews about this property being a little bit remote, but I was still surprised the first time we drove out to it. Once you get used to the narrow, windy roads, it is actually worth the drive. Beautifully set alongside the river with it's cascades. The house was perfect for our family holiday get together, having 8 people comfortably accommodated. Until we discovered the downstairs shower and laundry, we were a little concerned that we would all be sharing just the one bathroom upstairs, with just a bath, no shower! So we were relieved to find the other. If you plan to self-cater, it's best to bring it all in on your first trip, as there's no corner shop nearby for anything extra and the nearest shop is back in Hawkshead. Overall, we were more than happy with the cottage.

We stayed at White Lodge for a week and had my father and mother for 3 nights followed by my brother. It was a beautiful location and we really enjoyed our stay. Our neices declined the offer to come and stay as we had no Wifi but frankly I thought this was a bonus as my kids played rounders, monopoly, twister and generally had to make their own fun and also thoroughly enjoyed it
