With the views beginning at home, you'll be tempted to take on such famous Lake District walks as Silver How, Lang How and Helm Crag. Rising very close to the property is the impressive 'Fairfield Horseshoe' - keen walkers will be spoilt for choice. This historic Lake District village is famed for its connections with the poet William Wordsworth, who lived in the village at Dove Cottage is open to the public as part of the Wordsworth Museum. Artists will enjoy browsing several watercolour galleries in Grasmere, particularly the Heaton Cooper Studio which displays the Cooper family's famous work as well as that of inspired local artists. The village centre has all the facilities you'll need during your self-catering holiday in the heart of the Lakes. Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

Good to have a parking space included. Very well appointed, clean, warm and comfortable. We stayed with my 90 year old mother and she was always warm enough even though it was only 6 degrees outside. Lovely views with windows on 3 sides. I had to be aware not to bump my head on the eaves in the upstairs bedroom. The upstairs bed is only a double, not a king which we are used to. Also all of the beds need new mattresses.

It’s in a perfect location and was spotlessly clean with everything you need for a relaxing break. We would definitely recommend a visit and would not hesitate to book again in the future.

Having seen this late (I was on holiday not monitoring my phone!) I confirmed visit ok. However on the day, despite getting ready for the visit (0900-0930), no engineer turned up. We were in and out during the day and weren't sure what to expect each time we returned. However, no visit seemingly took place and there was no further contact from the maintenance team. Maybe there was an emergency elsewhere. It didn't spoil our holiday, but the uncertainty did rather take the edge off our last full day. Lots of positives - property is well situated overlooking the river, very clean, comfortably furnished, now with a dining table in the oriel bay recess, and well equipped, and the parking is a real plus. I would go back in a heartbeat.
