About this property

Perched in the popular village of Ambleside, Cumbria, is this delightful mid-terrace cottage, Violet Cottage. Enjoying a superb setting within the Lake District National Park, just paces from the famous Lake Windermere, Violet Cottage is a fantastic choice for couples or a family of four. The property benefits from a lovely rear garden with furniture, perfect for alfresco dining. Inside, you will find an inviting living/dining room, with plush seating, crackling woodburning stove and a TV, ideal for relaxing evenings spent with loved ones, along with a well-equipped kitchen where you can rustle up your favourite dishes, ready to enjoy at the dining table for four. Upstairs, there is a contemporary bathroom where you can wash away the day with a soak in the bath or freshen up under the overhead shower. When sleep calls, you can retire to one of two tastefully decorated bedrooms, both doubles, both of which are light and airy and offer front and rear views. Explore the town, where you can sample delicious meals at Fellinis, Copper Pot, and The Old Stamp House, stock up on essentials at the convenience store, visit the Armitt Library and Museum, make your way over to the stunning 70-ft Stock Ghyll Force, or visit the fascinating 2nd-century Roman Fort. Nearby, you can also visit Rydal, where you can hike through the breath-taking manmade Rydal Cave and visit Rydal Mount & Gardens, or continue on to Grasmere, where you can tour the former home of William Wordsworth. Next stop is Windermere, where you can take to the waters of Lake Windermere with a variety of watersports, soak up the views from Queen Adelaide’s Hill, test out your swing at the excellent Windermere Golf Club, and sample fresh seafood at Hooked. Further afield, you’ll find Keswick, home to Keswick Museum, Derwent Pencil Museum and The Theatre By The Lake. All this and more awaits at Violet Cottage.

Lying at the northern extremity of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside is a wonderful base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. Cruises, boat rides, and watersports may be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the hamlet itself features various stores, restaurants, and bars that cater to visitors of all tastes. On Waterhead's lakeside, the parkland provides beautiful views down the lake and a small beach, while a stroll in the opposite direction, along Stock Ghyll through the woods, leads to the captivating Stock Ghyll Force waterfall. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The cottage has been beautifully refurbished. The strong WiFi and smart tv with netflix kept our kids amused when we were home. The cottage is superbly situated in Ambleside, we didn't need to move our car as a short walk into town, shops and 10 min walk to Waterhead for the ferries on Windermere. The only negative if you have a car bigger than a hatchback parking outside the cottage on the road maybe a problem but parking on adjacent road/streets nearby is available as instructed in the welcome pack. Thankyou again for a great stay.
