About this property

This luxurious two-bedroom holiday home, set in ten acres of wooded grounds, is one of just ten apartments converted from a magnificent nineteenth century Vicarage. It is set in a stunning and tranquil hillside location with unique views to the dramatic Fairfield Horseshoe. Drive through the security gates up to the parking area situated next to the house and you are sure to be impressed with this beautiful setting. Walk down to the small town of Ambleside, which is a ten-minute walk over a charming stone bridge through lovely Rothay Park. Browse the specialist shops, enjoy the excellent restaurants, welcoming cafes, pubs, recreational facilities and the excellent cinemas. Strike out from your door-step to soak up some of the most beautiful and acclaimed walks in the National Park. From the parking area take the short walk from your car, enter the main building and climb the grand staircase to the second floor. Go through the entrance hall into your bright and beautiful sitting room with dining area. Walk to the window and feast your eyes on the stunning landscape and on the magnificent view of the Fairfield Horseshoe. After your day’s journey, kick off your shoes and enjoy your favourite drink on the comfortable sitting room suite or make a tasty snack or meal in the lovely kitchen, where you are certain to admire the quality cream units and granite work sur-faces.

At the end of your busy day, enjoy the tranquillity and comfort of your pretty bedrooms. One has a king-size bed with en-suite bathroom. The other has twin beds with an en-suite shower room. There is a cloakroom with wash basin and WC off the hallway.

The property lies in ten acres of beautiful wooded grounds with garden benches to take in the en-chanting views. You can also make use of the shared tennis court. Your parking space is large enough for two cars.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

It is well equipped, nicely designed and comfortable. Every window offers a view. Lovely grounds, you can walk from the door up Loughrigg Fell. No real criticisms. The 40 steps mean that it's not suited to any anyone with significant mobility issues. The toaster tripped the switches every time we tried to use it!

We enjoyed our week. However, the access via four flights of stairs, two corridors and more steps should have been included in the property details before booking. It was absolutely gruelling to have to haul our baggage upwards on our arrival. Some people just couldn’t do it. Very surprised at the lack of a welcome pack which is standard at most holiday lets. Not a teabag, biscuit, not even bare essentials. No paper towels, tin foil etc or even sufficient hand soap. Just a dishcloth and three dishwasher tablets. Even replacement loo rolls had to be purchased. At £1200 per week rental, it was unacceptable.

The views from the windows were outstanding and a real pleasure, well worth climbing the 4 flights of stairs for!
