You can easily wander, too, to all the enticing eateries, baker's shops, wine bars and old Cumbrian inns that Ambleside has to offer. Why not hire your own rowboat and take a picnic hamper for a really romantic and relaxed afternoon? If you do fancy a run out in your car, though, you have the whole of the South Lakes spread out about you; be sure to take a trip to the beautiful Langdale valleys.

A true Lakeland love-nest, Old Wool Loft offers the luxury and the location for a thoroughly memorable holiday for two!

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Very comfortable and ideally positioned right in the heart of Ambleside. The parking permit was a great bonus. From previous experience with these cottages we’ve learnt to take the basics. Toilet roll. Hand wash, washing up liquid, logs etc as you will only get enough for the first day! It rained every day so we didn’t sit out on the balcony but it is definitely in need of some tlc but it wouldn’t put me off booking again.

It's very private although near all the eateries and shops. It's furnished very well with lots of different lighting to set the mood, the corner sofa is clean and comfortable. The bed is huge and felt like I was sleeping in a cloud, with a beautiful free standing mirror that bounced light around the room. Loved the freestanding bath in the bedroom, lovely touch. The rooftop garden space was great to sit and relax albeit still winter. All in all we had a perfect weekend and there are plenty of walks from the doorstep too.

There was only 1 glass in the kitchen (apart from wines glasses) in the cupboard there was a broken plate and cracked mug. The floors are so dirty. I don’t think they have been hoovered in a while. I dropped something under the sofa and was disgusted by the clumps of dust and hair on the floor. We had to wear socks all the weekend as you wouldn’t walk bare foot (would recommend taking slippers) There was loads of hairs everywhere. In had to clean the bath before using it and there was so many hairs in the bed. I had to lit roller the bed but still couldn’t get them all. The amenities are really poor, only got 1 toilet roll, no hand soap in the bathroom, no logs for the fire. We come to celebrate a special birthday and I spent the first day cleaning and it basically put a damper on the whole weekend. The apartment has so most potential as the location and apartment could be great but it’s looking tired, lacks the basics and isn’t clean.
