Snaptrip says

Ivy Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its excellent location with stunning views and direct access to the fells. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen and cosy living area, though some suggest improvements in seating comfort. The property's charm and cleanliness are noted, albeit with some minor concerns.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Cleanliness receives mixed reviews. Some guests found the cottage clean and tidy, while others noted issues with dust, marks on walls, and remnants from previous guests. These inconsistencies suggest room for improvement.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to local walks and the town of Ambleside, as well as the beautiful views of the lake. The only drawback mentioned is the accessibility for those with mobility issues.

Comfort is generally satisfactory, with a cosy atmosphere mentioned. However, several guests reported an uncomfortable mattress and a desire for more supportive seating, indicating that comfort could be enhanced.

Facilities are well-regarded, especially the kitchen and wet room. Criticisms include the lack of WiFi, uncomfortable mattress, and some maintenance issues like the shower drainage. Overall, facilities are good but could benefit from updates.

While some guests suggested the addition of a welcome hamper and outdoor cushions, these are not consistently mentioned across reviews. As such, it is not possible to accurately assess thoughtfulness, and no score can be provided.

About this property

Ivy Cottage is a luxury holiday home in Clappersgate, on the lower slopes of Loughrigg Fell, with wonderful views out to Lake Windermere and beyond. The property is a magical getaway that sleeps up to four guests over two bedrooms, so it’s ideal for a couple or family and is close to the dramatic Langdale Valley, whilst Ambleside, with its amenities and attractions is just a short walk away. At the cottage, you'll experience all the charm and character of traditional Lakeland living; pretty latch doors, exposed wooden beams and of course a wood burning stove - even a window seat from which to drink in the views. But with comfort in mind, the owners have gone to great lengths installing heating under the solid oak floors, chic modern bathrooms . A pretty walled garden is perfect for soaking up the sun and surveying all that is around you and for those who enjoy walking walkers, there’s a path leading straight onto Loughrigg Fell. This property is unsuitable for babies or toddlers and due to the pathway access may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Very cosy living area and a lovely break. However it is very inaccessible and definitely not for the elderly or infirm but to me (age 77) it was well worth the struggle. I would go again.

The cottage was otherwise great. One thing, though -- the lower bathroom shower did not drain properly and the bathroom floor flooded a bit, so we had to mop it up. Not a big problem but probably needs tending to!

I think the inaccessibility & that the parking is not immediate should be better explained in the bio, not after booking. Anyone requiring sticks or wheels to manoeuvre would really struggle here. When arriving at a self-catering holiday cottage after a long journey loaded with food & clothing I really had a hard job moving stuff between car and cottage along that terrible footpath. Maybe the price should reflect the inaccessibility. Also appliance manuals would be helpful. I had no idea how to use the induction hob.
