About this property

Situated in the heart of cosmopolitan Ambleside, this stunning apartment offers contemporary Lakeland living at its finest. Idle Mill is a superb glass and stone conversion of a traditional mill building and adjoins The Flying Fleece.

The property is entered via a glass bridge over the adjacent river. Here guests will find a relaxing seating area and access to the apartment’s penthouse level where a viewing balcony and full length windows make the most of the outstanding views. This wonderful rental has been awarded 5 stars, and it’s not hard to see why. Oak floors, superbly comfortable sofas and modern wood burning stove make the open plan sitting room both cosy and chic. To one side of this lovely room are the dining area and kitchen which is sleek and wonderfully well-equipped, designed to blend unobtrusively into the space. Both of the property’s luxury bedrooms have wonderful views of the surrounding countryside in addition to their own decadent bathrooms.

The village of Ambleside is a destination in itself. Gorgeous boutiques, tea rooms and cafés around every corner and specialist shops for walkers, climbers and lovers of the great outdoors. Waterhead Pier is only a short walk away, with lots of eager ducks to feed and Windermere Lake Cruises departing regularly for Bowness and Lakeside. The historic village of Grasmere is close by as are lively Windermere and the picturesque village of Hawkshead. Where better to spend your precious time than here in Idle Mill?

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

The property was in a great location and was very spacious. The towels were so soft and fluffy! Great to have a few logs, fire lighters and kindling for the fire. Thankyou. Given the price we paid we expected a welcome pack of things such as milk, butter, bread etc. and maybe a few store cupboard items such as oil for cooking. The microwave, oven and fridge were dirty and needed cleaning prior to use. The knives were also blunt and could do with being replaced. Overall a great stay. Thankyou.

Flat adequate but charged£120 on the basis of some very blurred pictures of alleged damage. Impossible to identify either damage or location even though we requested additional information. Would avoid at all costs.

The sofa is unfortunately now too low for our needs and therefore we struggled to be comfortable in the living room. The rest of the apartment was comfy and well equipped. Ideally situated close to all amenities
