About this property

This modern riverside cottage, part of the contemporary Falls development, stands alongside Stockghyll Waterfalls and enjoys fabulous views from its own private balcony. The property is just minutes from the heart of vibrant Ambleside with its host of restaurants, outdoor shops and boutiques. Zeffirellis cinema, pizzeria and jazz bar is a treat not to be missed, and the adorable house on the bridge offers a lovely photo opportunity.

A short stroll from the village and you will reach Waterhead and Lake Windermere. Guests cannot miss the opportunity to take a cruise across the water to Bowness or Lakeside. The picturesque village of Hawkshead is a short drive away, with Hill Top and the Grizedale Forest a little further on. A car ferry crosses back to Bowness making the perfect route around the lake.

This property is beautifully presented and having two large bedrooms with private bathrooms, ideal for two couples sharing or a small family group. Ghyll Heights is arranged over three floors. On the lower floor is a lovely king size room and bathroom. A separate dressing room adds an element of luxury, and the outlook is charming. The entrance hall leads to the main living area and balcony with a view over the nearby waterfall. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped with everything needed to conjure up a hearty breakfast or evening meal. Upstairs again to the second of the two king size rooms with en-suite bathroom. Total privacy in a charming location.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

It’s a steep uphill walk back from the town, but a lovely location with the bonus of a dedicated car parking space. Comfortable beds and lots of kitchen equipment. The heating system is probably a bit old, so the living room doesn’t get very warm, but the owners have provided a fan heater, so no problems there. Generally clean, but there are cobwebs in the loft room windows, some dusty ornaments and fluff and feathers under the sofas, but the important areas were sparkling! We’d definitely stay here again, and recommend Zeferellis restaurant, The Golden Rule pub, and the butcher on North Street.

Everything we needed. It was our first Xmas away from home so we where a bit dubious about what supplies where in the kitchen.. I am pleased to say that Xmas dinner was a success. The closeness to the town was brilliant as was the tranquility of the surroundings. Lovely decor throughout. I would like to point out though that the downstairs bedroom window did not keep out the light from the annoying light outside,so I didn’t get a good nights sleep..may I suggest a black out blind to ensure the light doesn’t penetrate the curtains, which where lined.. but the street light is so bright. We had a lovely stay however.. and would recommend to friends snd family.

The cottage was well equipped and warm. The plumbing was first class with an Aqualisa shower ! About 5 minutes walk into Ambleside.
