Snaptrip says

The Writing Room in Cumbria & The Lake District receives praise for its spaciousness, comfortable furnishings, and beautiful location with stunning views and well-maintained gardens. Guests appreciate the proximity to local amenities and the peaceful environment. Some concerns are noted regarding maintenance and noise insulation from other apartments.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests found the property clean and well-presented upon arrival. However, there were a few instances of cleanliness issues such as food splashes and a dirty kitchen counter, which slightly lowers the score.

The location is highly praised for its stunning views, tranquil setting, and proximity to local attractions and amenities, including a nearby pub and walking trails.

Guests find the beds and sofas very comfortable, and the central heating is appreciated. Some guests mentioned issues with a lumpy duvet and flat pillows, but overall the comfort level is high.

The property is well-equipped with a modernised shower room and a well-stocked kitchen. However, there are reports of maintenance issues such as a problematic downstairs loo seat, a bath in need of TLC, and a non-functional fan, which affects the score.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness category.

About this property

This beautiful two-bedroom holiday home, spread over two floors, has been formed from the original writing room of a Victorian, mid-19th century Gentleman's residence called Sawrey Knotts. It is one of six apartments in this impressive building, which retains the feel and atmosphere of a traditional country house. The property boasts three acres of shared grounds and stunning views to the southern and western fells. Ideal for a family or two couples.

Walk into the large and impressive panelled hallway and find your holiday home on the left. Enter into the hallway and step into your main living room to find an elegant and welcoming space with comfortable leather seating traditional open fire and gorgeous large bay window. Discover your neat, stylish kitchen and dining area and anticipate lovely meals in this appealing space. Take two steps up to your double bedroom with en-suite walk in shower. Walk downstairs to find a twin bedroom with en-suite shower room. Both bedrooms are bright and spacious. You will also find a separate laundry room with two washing machines and two dryers at the back of the property.

Walk a mile to Hill Top, Beatrix Potter's fascinating home and museum. Have a bite to eat at the well-loved Cuckoo Brow Inn. Wander down to Lake Windermere’s quiet western shore and take the ferry to Bowness to enjoy a scenic cruise.

Drive to Hawkshead to explore the historic and beautiful, grade 1 listed village church before visiting Wordsworth’s old school. After that, relax with a drink in one of village’s excellent cafes or pubs.

From your doorstep, you will have the choice of many superb paths and trails around the local area, as well as being in striking distance of some of the best hill walks in the National Park.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.

. but the room filled up with smoke and all alarms were set off. (We were looking forward to getting Cosy with the log fire) we had to open the doors and kitchen window and spent over an hour wafting to remove smoke/fumes Therefore we didn't bother lighting the fire for the rest of our vacation, one of the main reasons we booked our accommodation was due to the log fire.

There are steps into all bedrooms, one steep stairwell has three steps that are different heights so just be cautious, as I had an elderly relative with me. The noise from upstairs is horrendous. One night they were running around, had music blaring which was quite annoying until 11pm. There were no logs in the log store that was a help yourself affair. The cutlery and glasses were not very clean, so maybe the cleaner should check these in future following previous occupants. They ask you to strip the bedding before you leave, you only find this out when you arrive.

Perfect quiet location with loads of walking available. The apartment has been refurbished since our last visit and the main bathroom upgraded. Very comfortable lounge with fantastic views. The extra touches by the owners are much appreciated. We have stayed here many times before and can't wait to visit again. Thank you
