Outside, there is decking with furniture to the front and side – perfect for an alfresco breakfast. Facilities on this fantastic site include a restaurant, pub with beer garden, a shop and deli, as well as a children's play area. The colourful village of Bowness is just a 5-minute stroll from the park and has a host of shops and boutiques, restaurants and bars to enjoy, plus some lovely family attractions including the World of Beatrix Potter. The Windermere Steamers depart from an area known as the Glebe, where you can jump on board and cruise up the lake to Ambleside or down to Lakeside. For a great day out visit Brockhole, the Lake District visitor centre, just 10 minutes’ drive away, where there is a treetop adventure course and delightful gardens to explore – pack a picnic and enjoy these idyllic surroundings. With a charter granted in 1262, the traditional Cumbrian market town of Wigton still holds a market each Tuesday in the covered market hall. This lovely town is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, as well as for other activities such as theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. The Lord Melvyn Bragg novel, 'A Time to Dance', featured the town of Thurston, which was based on Wigton and the local area. A lovely base for a holiday exploring Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.
