Guests say

The Hayloft is highly praised for its stunning, tranquil location in the Newlands Valley, offering direct access to beautiful walks and breathtaking scenery. Guests consistently commend the warm hospitality of the owners, John and Fiona, and the well-equipped, cosy cottage. The property is especially popular with walkers and those seeking a peaceful rural retreat. While the vast majority of reviews are extremely positive, a small number mention issues with cleanliness and mattress comfort. Overall, guests leave with fond memories and a strong desire to return.

Most guests found the cottage spotless and well-maintained, with several describing it as 'absolutely spotless' and 'very clean'. However, a minority reported issues such as flies, chipped crockery, and some general cleanliness concerns, which slightly lowers the score.

The location is universally celebrated for its peace, seclusion, and outstanding natural beauty, with direct access to walks and stunning views. The only minor drawback mentioned is the remote access, which some found further from the main road or local pub than expected.

The majority of guests describe the cottage as warm, cosy, and comfortable, with particular praise for the beds and living areas. A few guests, however, found the mattresses uncomfortable or too firm, which has been noted.

The cottage is widely regarded as very well-equipped, with modern appliances, good kitchen facilities, and thoughtful extras such as laundry and log burners. A couple of guests noted minor issues, such as the washing machine being in an outbuilding or a lack of emergency lighting during a power cut.

Guests frequently mention the owners' friendliness, helpfulness, and willingness to go above and beyond, such as providing local advice and even transport in emergencies. Occasional references to small touches like olive oil in the kitchen and free-range eggs are appreciated, but please note that such gifts or extras are not guaranteed.

The location was off the beaten track and it was stunning in the valley with a variety of walks on the doorstep. John & Fiona were friendly and welcoming, and it was great to learn more about the farm, meet the animals and sample the free -range eggs. The accommodation was lovely and well equipped. However, unfortunately, we didn't find the mattresses very comfortable at all as we could feel the springs and we didn't sleep that well as a result. A deep mattress topper, or new mattresses would make a huge difference to get a good night sleep after a day of walking. Other than that, it was a beautiful place to be, to connect with nature and each other away from the hustle and bustle of life.

We loved to stay in the cosy Hayloft. Step out of the door and start your walks in a gorgeous valley. Definitely a place you want to visit again. Many thanks to Fiona and John.

Fiona and John are a lovely couple very friendly and helpful and our Border Collie loved seeing the farms Collies and having a bit play with them. Unfortunately the weather was terrible rain and sometimes gale force winds snow and ice but 2 days we had bright skies and a bit of sun, but we were out and about every day and managed a couple mountains on the better days. We will definitely be back have to book early as very popular for good reason.
