Oak Apple House is a spacious, comfortable cottage in an excellent location just a short walk from Keswick town centre, with the added benefit of ample off-road parking and a secure garden ideal for families and dogs. Guests consistently praise its homely feel, well-equipped kitchen, and proximity to local amenities. While some mention minor maintenance issues and a lack of welcome packs, the overall experience is highly positive, with many guests returning year after year.
Most guests found the property clean and tidy, though a few noted occasional lapses such as stained carpets or missed items. Overall, cleanliness is generally good but could benefit from more consistent attention.
The location is frequently described as excellent, with easy access to Keswick town centre, local walks, and attractions. Off-road parking is a significant advantage.
The house is widely regarded as comfortable and spacious, with cosy lounges and good beds, though a few guests mentioned lumpy single mattresses and bulky dining chairs.
Facilities are generally well-received, including a large kitchen, multiple bathrooms, and secure garden. Some guests noted minor issues such as tired decor, blunt knives, and a need for more serving bowls or improved dining chairs.
Several guests mentioned disappointment at the absence of a welcome pack or basic supplies, which are not guaranteed. While essentials like toilet rolls and hand gel are provided, guests should be prepared to bring their own extras.

This house suits us very well. It is within easy walking distance of town but quiet at night. It is particularly good for a two-generation family in that it has two sitting rooms, plenty of space for play and parking spaces. The double bedrooms are lovely and big. The twin rooms are small but suitable for infants. However, after four or five consecutive years of renting this cottage, and commenting previously about the mattresses on the single beds, they are still lumpy and uncomfortable. The kitchen equipment is adequate, but I bring my own sharp knife. It would be so much easier if the washing line could be reinstated, or a tumble drier installed.

We needed a short term place to stay before driving up to Scotland and wanted to see the Lake District. The home is a short walk to shops and pubs and there are walks just outside your door. While there were pots and pans there was not coffee tea or sugar to be found. This is our third cottage in three months and the first that didn’t supply basics.

We've been coming to Oak Apple House on and off for over 15 years now, and in they time it has been improved and updated beyond belief ..... however over the past couple of years we have noticed that it's starting to look a little "tired" and could do with a kick of paint here and there and just a little tlc here and there.Years ago guests used to have a little "welcome" pack but that is not the case now, and we've learned over the years to bring our own washing up and laundry essentials, and of course Booths and Co-Op are just a few minutes walk away. The main bedroom bed is lovely and comfortable, whereas the second king size bed could do with a new mattress. The kitchen is well stocked which is often not the case in other places we've stayed. One thing we noticed is that when we had a hail and rain storm that water did come through the gap in the side door opposite the downstairs toilet, and like the main door it's not completely sealed as replacement doors should be.Overall Oak Apple House is truly home from home and each time stayed there we've always had wonderful holiday and a truly warm, inviting and comfortable stay .... but it could do with some attention and tlc to make it an exceptional house.
