Several local activity organisers can be found here too to help you plan an exciting outing with ghyll scrambling being very popular, as well as a host of watersports to try out on the nearby lake, Derwentwater, including paddle-boarding, kayaking, and canoeing. Learn about the discovery of black lead in the area, sparking a boom in pencil making in the town, at Derwent Pencil Museum, or head to the unique and unusual Puzzling Place and be wowed by optical illusions. Two of the Lake District’s best and biggest peaks lie next door to Keswick, Skiddaw and Blencathra, so any walkers can delight in taking on either of these challenges to be rewarded at the top with stunning, far-reaching views.
