It's well-equipped, with comfortable beds and ample entertainment options, making it perfect for relaxation and local exploration. Some minor maintenance issues are noted, but overall, guests highly recommend the property for a peaceful and enjoyable stay.

The cottage is generally praised for its cleanliness, though one review mentioned the kitchen bins had not been emptied and the surrounding area was not cleaned to expected standards. This seems to be an isolated incident, as no other reviews raised cleanliness concerns.

We love Joan’s Cottage and this was our 4th Christmas there. The setting is tremendous, cottage is warm and spacious and the kitchen has everything you need. Beds are very comfortable. The sound of the river is very soothing. We find it tricky to get live TV channels there but streaming channels are easy to log in to. A super place with great views and opportunities for asking and relaxing in the local area.

A very nice stay, thank you. There’s nothing really in Thorntwaite, the nearest pub is 3 miles away in Braithwaite. The gate into Whinlatter forest is yards away but the paths at this point are steep. There is a longer but easier route into the forest from Thornthwaite. The second small lounge room, is perhaps, a bit wasted for most families. Remembering to duck every time you go into the kitchen is a chore, especially when it looks like the doorway could have been taller. My mattress was a bit saggy in the middle. Honestly, I’m nit picking because everything was great.
