Situated at the foot of the beautiful Seldom Seen ravine, right next to the mountain stream Coombe Beck, in the village of Thornthwaite, this compact mid-terraced holiday cottage with small kitchen/ dining area but good sized lounge and bedrooms lies just three miles west of Keswick, a truly idyllic location with views across to Skiddaw in one direction and the beginning of the Helvellyn range in the other. The cottage benefits from two double bedrooms and feels like the perfect home from home; additionally there is also a private bench outside the front to be able to sit and relax. The area is great for both walking and cycling and lies on the lower slopes of Whinlatter, with many forest trails and mountain bike tracks. There is a gallery and tea room 100 yards from the cottage (open throughout the year apart from January) and a shop, pubs and restaurants are one mile away in the village of Braithwaite. The vibrant market town of Keswick has a wealth of amenities, a total contrast to the peace and tranquillity at Harriet’s Hideaway. Note those with limited mobility may find the stairs a little steep.

We had a lovely comfortable stay, the cottage is lovely and cosy in a perfect picturesque location. It has really good wi-fi and tv reception. We used it as a base to access Keswick, Buttermere, Bassenthwaite and Windlatter visitor centre. Sitting out when the three of the 4 cottages were occupied was a problem as you had three/four cars in the only place you can sit outdoors so this wasn’t ideal. It doesn’t offer a garden it’s an area of shared gravel based parking. It’s an ideal place for your dog to sit outdoors. However we spent the mornings of each day out and about with our dog, as we had really hot weather that week 29/30 so kept her indoors during the extreme heat during most afternoons. Thankfully they supply 3 fans.
