Catbells Cottage in Keswick is praised for its excellent central location, making it an ideal base for exploring the town and surrounding walks. Guests appreciate the cosy, well-equipped interior and spacious layout. While many found the cottage clean and comfortable, some noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance. Parking is a recurring challenge, especially for larger vehicles, and the stairs may be steep for some. Thoughtful touches such as Christmas decorations were appreciated by some guests, though these are not guaranteed. Overall, the cottage offers a pleasant stay with great access to Keswick’s amenities.
Most guests found the cottage clean and tidy, but several reviews mention issues such as unclean towels, a dirty toilet, and the need for deeper cleaning in the bathroom and kitchen. A few guests had to clean dishes or found maintenance issues on arrival.
The location is consistently praised as excellent, with guests loving the short walk to Keswick town centre, shops, and local walks. Some mention road noise and difficulty finding the entrance, but overall, the central position is a major highlight.
Guests generally found the cottage cosy and comfortable, with warm interiors and comfy beds. However, some noted that the top floor bedroom could be cold, beds were occasionally uncomfortable or squeaky, and steep stairs may be challenging for those with mobility issues.
The cottage is well-equipped with appliances and amenities, including a washing machine and kitchen gadgets. However, some guests noted missing kitchen basics, broken oven knobs, and minor maintenance issues such as blown bulbs and loose fittings. Parking is very tight and can be difficult for larger cars.
Some guests appreciated thoughtful touches like Christmas decorations and a parking permit, but others noted a lack of basics such as soap, salt, and extra toilet rolls. Gifts or special extras are not guaranteed.

The cottage was well appointed and the decoration was lovely. It is literally a 2-minute walk to the town centre and all amenities. The kitchen has everything we needed and the two bedroom were spacious. The bathroom was perfect with both a bath and shower. We had a lovely stay overall. I am rating it 3 stars because of the following: we were left to empty the previous occupants' dishawasher on arrival, not such a big deal, except that it had been overloaded with 2/3 of the available crockery, and clearly none of it had been rinsed off. So we started our holiday with a big wash up and picking bits of food from previous occupants off the dishwasher. It is situated on a busy road, so a bit noisy. The outdoors area consists of your parking space with a bench (actually quite pleasant in the evening sun) which made parking just a little more difficult. My biggest issue was the parking: customers need to be aware that they need to drive through a narrow lane to the right of a row of 3 cottages and turn into the parking lot negotiating a very tight corner, trying to avoid other cottages' staircases, a lot of bins, a van parked at the end of the alleyway, and larger cars in the parking lot: yours will be the very last space. If you drive and park forward, you'll need to reverse out or vice versa. On the plus side, 15 minutes of manoeuvring mean you chose to do everything on foot: good for the environment! There are plenty of hikes starting from Keswick.
