Guests say

Castle Howe is a charming and cosy cottage in the peaceful hamlet of Rosthwaite, offering stunning views and direct access to beautiful walks in the Lake District. Guests praise its well-equipped kitchen, comfortable atmosphere, and excellent location for exploring the area. While many enjoyed their stay and plan to return, some noted issues with cleanliness and the main bedroom mattress. The cottage is ideal for walkers and those seeking a tranquil retreat, with thoughtful touches such as bird feeders and board games enhancing the experience.

Several guests highlighted issues with cleanliness, including dusty floors, dirty carpets, and kitchen surfaces needing attention. However, some areas like bathrooms and the kitchen oven were found clean by others. Overall, cleanliness is adequate but would benefit from improvement and more consistent standards.

The location is highly praised, with guests loving the peaceful setting in Rosthwaite, beautiful views, and immediate access to excellent walks. The cottage is well-placed for exploring Borrowdale and the wider Lake District, making it a favourite for walkers and nature lovers.

The cottage is described as cosy and comfortable, with underfloor heating and a homely feel. However, repeated complaints about the king-size mattress being uncomfortable and lumpy affected some guests' sleep quality. Otherwise, the property is generally warm and inviting.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen, hot showers, heated floors, and a good range of cooking equipment. Some maintenance issues were noted, such as underfloor heating not being ready on arrival and a faulty gas fire, but these were mostly resolved during stays.

Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as bird feeders with supplied food, a well-stocked bookshelf, and board games. While these extras enhanced the stay for many, please note that such gifts or amenities are not guaranteed for every visit.
