About this property

Poets Retreat is a charming terraced cottage situated in the heart of Cockermouth, Cumbria. Conveniently located near local shops and a welcoming pub, this family-friendly haven offers roadside parking and serves as an ideal base for families or friends seeking a delightful countryside escape. As you step inside the property, you’ll find yourself welcomed by a charming sitting room, complete with a TV and a comforting woodburning stove, ideal for those cooler evenings. The resident cook will be pleased by the well-appointed kitchen, equipped with everything necessary to rustle up a hearty meal. Enjoy your culinary efforts in the dining room, which offers plenty of seating for everyone to gather and swap tales from the day.

Outside, the enclosed rear patio awaits, perfect for sipping your morning coffee or an evening tipple, all while soaking in the peaceful atmosphere of this delightful spot. The patio furniture provides a fine setting for alfresco dining or simply basking in the sunshine when the weather allows. As the evening draws to a close, retire to one of the two welcoming bedrooms. The king-size bedroom benefits from an en-suite with a basin and WC, offering a private space to prepare for each day. The second bedroom hosts a relaxing double bed, ensuring a flexible sleeping arrangement for all party makeups. A family bathroom, complete with a bath, shower over, basin, heated towel rail and WC, serves these rooms.

Immerse yourself in the rich local culture by visiting vibrant attractions such as the Lake District Wildlife Park, where you can catch a glimpse of local and exotic animals, and the National Trust's Wordsworth House and Garden, the childhood home of the famous Romantic poet. An afternoon at The Lakes Distillery promises tastings of locally produced gin, vodka and whiskey. Channel your adventurous spirit with a trip to Go Ape Whinlatter, where you can tackle treetop challenges or explore stunning woodland trails on a Segway. Delve deep into the past at the Senhouse Roman Museum and unearth the history of the Roman Empire's influence in Cumbria.

Lastly, unwind amidst the lush, verdant beauty of Mirehouse & Gardens, a serene escape with stunning views of Skiddaw Mountain and Bassenthwaite Lake. After days spent discovering all that Cumbria has to offer, the calming confines of Poets Retreat provide the perfect place to rest and revitalise.

The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
