    About this property

Broughton-in-Furness 5 miles and Millom 5 miles. This picturesque, traditional Lake District barn is situated in a timeless, peaceful location in the gardens of Whicham mill at the foot of Black Combe, with White Combe beyond in the South West corner of the Lake District National Park. Wainwright mentions Whicham Mill in his description of three walks on Black Combe which can all be started directly from the door of Swallow Barn. The Barn offers a stylish and cosy, brand new conversion. The ground floor has a well-equipped kitchen boasting a slate floor with underfloor heating. A small step up leads to the sitting room, complete with a wood burning stove. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with a king-size bed, views of the garden and charming original features. The bright second bedroom has twin beds which can be zip-linked. The family bathroom includes a bath with both a shower wand and shower over, basin and WC. Outside there is a private stone walled patio to enjoy the afternoon sun and a beautiful lawned garden with the beck tumbling by, providing an enchanting place to enjoy the scenery.
The famous Cumbrian Heavy Horses Stable and Riding Centre is just along the valley offering unforgettable beach and fell rides. There are a range of walks and attractions to take advantage of, including breathtaking views of the Irish Sea from Black Combe, the stunning wooded trails or scenic boat trips of Lake Windermere, Scafell Pike, the homes of Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter or the historic and haunted Muncaster Castle. Perfectly located to take in the famous landmarks and historical attractions of the Lake District, this property provides all the home comforts you will need, as well as a place to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy the natural beauty of the region.

Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley and the Lake District fells.

"After a six hour road trip my wife and I arrived to find the heating on and the wood burner made ready to fire up.There was milk in the fridge and the table was laid with a wonderful home made cake in the centre..The barn is at the end of a very quiet lane and is ideal for touring the west side of the lakes."

" The barn conversion is excellent and we were made very welcome with lots of unexpected extras, such as home made tea bread. Directions to the property were spot on. We hope to return and do more walking next time. "

" As you arrive with the stunning back drops of 2 mountains and drive down the private lane and over the forde or small bridge to get to your holiday cottage which is just beautiful. Cut off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life but close enough to civilisation for the odd walker passing by or the owners accommodation nearby incase of anything needed which was never too much or indeed the local supermarket a very short but picturesque drive away. The barn itself very clean and with modern facilities and has been renovated to the highest standard, from the moment you wake up in your comfy bed listening to the stream running past with the mountain backdrops as your view to picking fresh herbs from the garden to help with your dinner to snuggling up on the sofa of an evening with the log burner making everything just right I couldn't recommend this place enough, mountain walks on your doorstep and waterfalls within reach we will be coming back! . "

"The cottage was in a lovely spot, a stream nearby, a friendly dog, a mountain walk from the cottage."
    Mrs Leon
"It may not be in the centre of the lake district, but we liked that. It was peaceful and felt like we were part of the 'real' Lakes because it was not too close to the touristy centre of the Lake District, but everything including Haverigg beach was just a short drive away. The best lake, Coniston, is about twenty mins drive away. The Punchbowl Inn is within walking distance serving really good pub grub. The owner is very approachable, accommodating and helpful. Has a great knowledge of local walks, sending us on an amazing walk that started on a pathway that used to be a victorian railway track, led to another great pub - The Blacksmiths Arms and though rolling fields full of new born lambs. All in all a wonderful easter break."
    Ms Giannarou
"Frat spot for walks in magnificent surroundings, literally from your doorstep. The cottage has a boutique hotel style and Maggie, the proprietor, is very helpful and discreet. We have been able to drive around the lakes from this location. We had seven wonderful days there. Highly recommended. We will be going back."

"Sympathetically renovated with just the right mix of old and modern decor and furniture. Clean, well equipped and a perfect spot for a peaceful relaxing break. The garden was great to sit and relax with a book and a glass of wine. Maggie was a great host who was there if we needed her for anything but in no way intrusive. Ideal spot for visiting some beautiful places nearby. Loved Ambleside and Ulverston was great on market day. We would definitely recommend this little gem."
