About this property

The Old Farmhouse is a delightful, character cottage dating back to 1656, set in the pretty, Cumbria village of Braithwaite. It retains much of its original, quirky features such as the slate floors, low ceiling beams and an impressive inglenook fireplace. You can bring your families and friends to share a memorable break in the Lake District, with extra sofa beds for flexible sleeping arrangements and two en-suite shower rooms for convenience. Feel welcomed into the kitchen with its fabulous AGA range cooker taking centre stage, ready to assist with the cooking of hearty breakfasts and tasty dinners. Get together around the large dining table in the living room and later cosy up on the sofas before the fire and catch up on some of your favourite TV programmes. Upstairs are three well-appointed and spacious bedrooms to retire to, together with a large family bathroom, where you can soak in the clawfoot bath tub and relax your muscles after a walk on the fells.

Between the northern lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, lies the village of Braithwaite., with two village shops and two real ale Inns. Between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is also well worth a visit. Lake District Wildlife Park, Dodd Wood, Derwentwater, and Keswick with its wide range of attractions are within easy reach.

I particularly enjoyed cooking with an Aga again, even the same colour as the one I had!

Unfortunately it’s getting a little tired in places now though. The crockery is dwindling- presumably because others have broken things. Please replace mugs with new white ones - only 6 unmatched ones left and several of those are stained. Similarly with the small/medium plates. Just everything was brilliant two years back! Also the quilt covers/bedding needs updating. Pretty sure we had same sets and now they are definitely over washed and worn! Other than that we had a great time meeting up with family. Love the location and pubs for eating- very busy so booking was needed.
