This wonderful cottage sits in the middle of Thornthwaite with fantastic views all around. It s perfect for families looking for a peaceful base to return to after adventurous days out.

This holiday home is located in a brilliant position for walking and cycling. Whinlatter Forest (3.5 miles) has trails for everyone, including interactive ones for children, while more seasoned walkers must take advantage of Skiddaw (8 miles). Spend a quieter day wandering around Keswick (4 miles), where the Derwent Pencil Museum will teach everyone something new, as will the Keswick Museum. Bassenthwaite Lake (5 miles) has spectacular views of the Skiddaw range across the waters if you don t fancy taking on the hike, while the village itself is home to an art gallery and the Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve. To the north of the lake, the Lake District Wildlife Park (6 miles) will be a hit with the kids. Enter the property through the utility room which is the ideal space for muddy boots and coats. There s a washing machine, tumble dryer, sink and handy extra WC. From here, move through to the bright and airy contemporary kitchen. Wooden floors and light units make it a pleasure to cook in, and you ll find everything you need including a double oven, gas hobs, microwave and fridge freezer. The breakfast table seats four so is perfect for some of the group getting together to help prepare the food. Through the hallway, you ll come to the open plan living area. Two huge picture windows offer breathtaking views of Skiddaw, Latrigg and Helvellyn, but it doesn t stop it becoming a cosy haven in the evenings. Curl up on the sofas in front of the open fire and watch TV or read a book left by the owners. A large circular dining table is ideal for sociable meals and there s another sofa so everyone can find their favourite spot. Off the hallway is the welcoming double bedroom that has charming views of the fields and woodland near the property as well as lots of storage space. The bathroom has a fresh and contemporary style and has a shower over the bath. Heading upstairs, there s a large landing with a desk for anyone who is unfortunate to have to bring work with them on holiday, but the large roof window that looks out to Whinlatter Forest softens the blow. There s another bathroom that s filled with light and has a large bath and separate shower, so is ideal for those needing to relax their muscles after a long walk. Both bedrooms on this floor have more of those superb views. The king size bedroom has lovely pastel decor and a dressing table to get ready at, while the twin bedroom has zip and link beds that can be made up into a double on request. Outside, the garden is a haven for wildlife and is set out on many levels. Explore the rockeries, pond and mature trees and plants and find your favourite place to enjoy the views. The terraced area outside the front door is a great spot for an al fresco drink, while the summer house that looks out towards the Newlands Fells is a quiet place to collect your thoughts.
