About this property

This a self-contained apartment within a larger barn conversion at a former farm on the outskirts of Bassenthwaite. It sleeps two people in one double bedroom and has a beautiful view to Bassenthwaite Lake and the surrounding fells. The apartment, which has been recently refurbished, is south facing and benefits from the afternoon and evening sun.

The barn is in a wonderful position benath Skiddaw. There is excellent walking straight from the door either to the high fells of Skiddaw and Ullock Pike or more gentle routes along the shores of Bassenthwaite. Dodd Wood is an extensive wooded fell at the foot of Skiddaw. The forest tracks offer easy walking and clear waymarked trails. The summit of Dodd has a fine view across Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. Dodd Wood is also home to the Osprey Watch project where a visiting pair of ospreys have nested for nearly ten years now.

Bassenthwaite Village is a gentle 30-minute walk from the apartment. There is a good pub in the village. You can also enjoy a walk from the village taking in pretty St Bega's church that nestles on the lake shore. The church is said to be the inspiration for Alfred Tennyson's Morte d'Arthur after his visit there in 1835.

The property is part of a barn conversion comprising of four cottages that can all be let together. Stairs lead up to the accommodation where there is an open-plan sitting room with TV and DVD player. The kitchen and dining area are beyond and the kitchen is equipped with electric cooker, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave and plenty of storage space.

The bathroom has a walk-in shower and opposite here is the large double bedroom.

All the windows have amazing views towards Bassenthwaite Lake and the fells beyond. Downstairs there is a shared patio area and garden beyond, patrolled by the Parkergate ducks.

There is a separate dryer room (with clothes airer, iron and ironing board) which is shared with the other cottages at the complex.
