The Borrowdale valley is one of the most idyllic parts of the Lake District and The Smithy is the perfect base for exploring this stunning region. With the convenience of two tea shops and a hotel with public bar close to the property. The bustling market town of Keswick is a short drive away with an independent cinema, beautiful theatre and great selection of restaurants, cafes and pubs to explore. Outdoor activities are ample in this region with kayaks available to hire on Derwentwater, famous Honister Slate Mines to explore and mountain biking in Whinlatter Forest.

The Smithy offers great accommodation in one of the region’s most beautiful settings.

Grange, otherwise known as Grange in Borrowdale, is a picturesque hamlet a very short distance from Derwentwater. The hamlet is reached via a famous double-humped bridge over the River Derwent, the beautiful outlet of Derwentwater itself.

‘Grange’ means ‘outlying farm belonging to a monastery’, and indeed Grange’s history dates back to medieval times when the monks of Furness Abbey owned the land here. The hamlet has grown little since then, and remains a cluster of cottages, several farms and two tea shops.

A short distance away is Keswick, one of the Lake District's most popular destinations. This friendly town hosts the very popular twice weekly market that has recently won the coveted 'Best Outdoor Market' in the Great British Market Awards. The village also offers a fantastic array of shops offering everything from craft bakeries and local produce, antiques, crafts and much, much more.

Thank you for the generous welcome pack it was much appreciated by all The cottage is in a great location, We did walks from the door. Keswick only few miles away for shops. Nice and clean lovely decoration has everything you need. Highly recommend. After seeing a comment on reviews about the parking space I was concerned but there is plenty space for a large car or 4 by 4 and the space is directly off the road no long reverse required. Would love to return.
