About this property

Bumble Bee Cottage is an 18th Century Character Cottage retaining many of its original features, the Cottage is situated on the edge of the historic market town of Alford, but within only a 5 min stroll to local shops, alford is quiet and picturesque with good road links in all directions, it is a great place for a base to explore rural Lincolnshire. The Cottage is also within a stones throw away from Alford’s Five sail working windmill which is open to the public, and which can be seen working from the Cottage garden. The property has been restored from being semi derelict using the owners love of natural history, nature and wildlife as the theme, each room has been decorated with a different wildlife creature, bespoke Curtains and cushions to go with each rooms particular theme. The Country Kitchen still has its original black cast range, however modern cooking apparatus is provided, you can prepare your meals before settling down at the dining table with your loved ones. When the owner purchased the Cottage in the late 90’s there was only a cold water tap in the house, no toilet or bathroom, you will be pleased to learn that there has been an extension to the Cottage in keeping with its period, to house a walk through Utility area and Bathroom. Upstairs plays host to two comfortable double bedrooms, there is plenty of storage in each. Externally, there is a long garden of lawn and a well-established Bramley Apple Tree, which the birds love, you can sit with your tea in the afternoon sun using the table and chairs provided, the front garden is hedged and gravelled. Alford has all the necessary shops including grocers, butchers, bakers, Coop Supermarket, Craft Market Shop, Newsagents and curiosity shops etc, there is a selection of public houses and tea rooms, a weekly market is held in the market square on a Tuesday, it is interesting to stand and watch the weekly auction on the cobbles where the auctioneer sells a wide variety of goods including furniture, implements flowers and produce etc. Close proximity to Lincolnshire's best beaches is a real plus point. Huttoft is only a 10 mins drive, and Sutton on Sea 12 mins. The beaches are easily accessible and have wide expanses of soft sand, which you and your dogs can enjoy. Why not have a day trip to Lincoln, visit the Historic Cathedral and Norman Castle, visit quirky shops on Lincoln’s steep hill, along with a great selection of well-known stores, Lincolnshire has lots to offer for everyone, there are events such as Seal Breeding Area Donna Nook around November and December, The Lincolnshire Show in June, Cadwell Park Racing Circuit, Alford Craft Market, Mablethorpe Motor Cycle Racing on the Beach, Lincolnshire Aviation & Heritage Centre, National Trust Gunby Hall & Gardens, Claythorpe Mill, Hardy’s Animal Farm and the Meridian Leisure Centre with Swimming Pool. We had everything we needed for our stay and appreciated the welcome basket left by the owners who called on our first day to check that everything was ok. The bed was really comfortable and the open fire made the lounge feel really cosy. We didn't use the garden as it was too late in the year but it would be good for sitting out in the summer. The parking is on road but we never had any difficulty in parking and it's a very short stroll to the centre of Alford. The cottage is in a great location for visiting the local area and the beaches are lovely and great if you have a dog. All in all, it was a great place to stay.

Surrounding neighbours pleasant and helpful . Good welcome pack - very nice . It is a cottage that has been extended , the bathroom is downstairs at the rear of the house - shower over bath - very deep to get in but nice once in . The kitchen come dining room is small with very limited surface space - takes a lot of moving things to make it work - but adequate .Dining table very small fold down , bit of a squeeze for four . Living room is three seater sofa plus one chair - real fire but limited fuel - good central heating . Two good bedrooms upstairs with very comfy beds - and I rarely say that . The stairs are the issue , if your young and fit no problem , but if your older with joint problems like myself they are deep and very steep - on all fours going up and a struggle with bags - and pretty daunting coming down . However most people may have no issue so don't be put off . The garden is a long grass area for the dog - but a small opening in the hedge with the property to the left means you need to watch your pet . The beaches are about seven miles away - but once there they are endless - how ever certain main sections do not allow dogs on between certain dates eg. 1st April to 30th Sept - please check. This is a good base property to travel around Lincolnshire and has received excellent comments in the book - with very high percentage positive feedback . Personally not quite right for me to book again, however I would advise you give it a try as it is only my own health issues that would stop this . Give it a go - you may love it .
