Paws in the Pines is a secluded cottage offering a peaceful stay with a wood-fired hot tub and a fenced garden for dogs. While some guests appreciated the quiet location and the cosy atmosphere provided by the log fire, others noted issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and heating.
Cleanliness received mixed reviews, with several guests reporting dirty utensils, stained cups, and unclean floors. Dog faeces in the garden and a mouldy toothbrush mug were also mentioned, indicating room for improvement in this area.
The location is praised for its peacefulness and seclusion, though some guests were disappointed by the lack of accessible woodland walks and difficulty finding the property. The proximity to Boston and availability of nearby walks were seen as positives.
Comfort levels were criticised due to inefficient underfloor heating, uncomfortable seating, and a lack of warmth in the property. The size of the bed and the provision of a small dog bed were also concerns.
Facilities and maintenance issues were frequently mentioned, including slow-draining showers, lack of a freezer, and the need for a dishwasher. The wood-fired hot tub was a highlight, though some found it difficult to heat.
While some guests expected a welcome pack with essentials like bread and milk, there were no consistent references to gifts or thoughtful touches provided by the hosts, thus a score cannot be given.

We booked a weekend stay early February 2026 at Paw in the pines. It would have helped if what three words had been put on the information to find it. It’s extremely tucked away and not at all easy. The entrance to the accommodation was over grown and very narrow, the gravel driveway not easy to walk on. However, it’s set in a lovely rural location. On entering the property, the first thing we noticed was how cold it felt , despite having under floor heating with the temperature saying it was 18.5 degrees. The accommodation seemed pleasant enough, nice comfy sofa, log fire, nice kitchen, bathroom downstairs (which was extremely cold) and a bedroom upstairs. The accommodation was reasonably clean, furnished well and comfortable. The owners had left a small amount of kindling and logs for the fire, which were much needed. They are happy to supply more for a small cost. Instructions in the welcome book. We had brought wood with us but ending up purchasing several more bags due to the place being so cold. We chose the property as it was supposedly dog friendly but other than one small dog bed, it didn’t feel very welcoming for our 3 small dogs.In the living room there are several board games and books to play or read which is a nice touch. There is a good sized tv. The kitchen is well equipped but would be better with a freezer and a dishwasher. The outside area was great for dogs as it was fenced in. However, the hot tub area was unkempt, full of leaves. The flue for the wood fired hot tub had not been assembled and the fire area in the hot tub hadn’t been cleaned out. However, it had been filled with fresh water. We tried to use the hot tub but after several hours it still wasn’t warm (we have a lot of experience with wood fired hot tubs too).On closer inspection of the accommodation, there are a number of housekeeping issues, bath panel which has a gap needs attention, kitchen unit kick board also needs attention as it’s loose, the curtain rail end fell off as soon as the curtains were drawn (it already had one end missing), the toilet has limescale so does the kettle. The bed for us was a small double and felt like it could do with a new mattress. The accommodation is tired and could do with a lick of paint. The temperature of the property was too cold. if it hadn’t been for the log fire we wouldn’t have stayed. The bathroom especially was not pleasant (so cold) and also no heating in the bedroom too. We chose to go home on the Sunday afternoon cutting our weekend away short by one night. I’m sure if the owners had the under floor heating checked, did a few much needed repairs and ensured the property is cleaned inside and out to a good standard it will thrive. It has the bones of a good holiday rental but just needs some tweaks.
