Dorchester, the county town is around 15 minutes by car and an ideal day trip with a number of museums, parks, shopping and restaurants. Travelling to Weymouth, around a 30 minute drive away offers a long sandy beach with traditional entertainments such as donkey rides, good shopping, restaurants and mainline railway travel to London Waterloo. The Purbecks are perfect for exploring and a large part of the district is now designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (aonb). Local beaches in the area include Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, and Poole (all around 30 minutes or less drive). Walking is a delight and the area has comprehensive footpaths and bridleways over the surrounding countryside and along the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. We were pleasantly surprised when we entered the Old School, we found it spacious, clean and well equipped. It was central to all the places we wished to visit in the week we stayed there. The directions to the cottage were clear and very easy to follow. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen very well set out. The only down side was the back garden which was particularly non existent but this should not put you off.
