Guests say

The Downs Barn Lodge is a charming cottage praised for its character, comfortable beds, and beautiful surroundings. Guests enjoyed the cosy wood burner, the spaciousness, and the peaceful setting, making it a favourite for return visits. The nearby farm shop adds convenience to the stay.

There is no specific mention of cleanliness in the reviews, so it is not possible to provide a score for this category.

The location is consistently described as beautiful and convenient, with a farm shop nearby and good proximity to local attractions. The natural setting is appreciated for its peace and beauty.

The cottage is noted for its comfortable beds and cosy atmosphere, especially with the wood burner lit. However, some guests mentioned issues with heating efficiency and a saggy sofa, slightly affecting the comfort score.

Facilities are generally good, with a well-furnished lodge and a new garden set provided promptly. However, there are mentions of maintenance issues like poor TV reception, a non-draining sink, and a lack of kitchen utensils, which impacts the score.

Guests mentioned a welcome pack, which turned out to be chocolates. While this gesture is appreciated, the lack of basics and outdated information in the welcome folder suggests room for improvement in thoughtfulness. Please note that gifts are a kind gesture and not guaranteed.

We had a lovely time at the cottage and found it was a great location to visit the surrounding area and with the farm shop on the corner everything was convenient. The wood burner was very cosy and handy with its supply of logs in the evenings. The cottage has plenty of character and very comfortable. On the colder days we did find the heat source pump heating wanting especially in the mornings but most of spring/summer it would be fine but the main room was chilly without the fire. The TV had poor reception so we were limited to BBC1 most nights but the internet was fine for streaming onto the laptop. It definitely on our list to return possibly in the warmer months.

    Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings.

We had a lovely long weekend at the Lodge, but warn to read the directions carefully as there is no obvious signage. It is spacious and mostly well and expensively furnished but with a few odd exceptions - only one sharp knife (but several bread knives), no beer or champagne glasses, lots of spices but no salt! The sofa was also beginning to get a bit saggy. The description on the Booking site said that a welcome pack was included, but this turned out to be a box of chocolates so bring some basics with you!Big pluses are the location and nearby farm shop. Overall we would book again
