About this property

Settled in the heart of Tetbury in Gloucestershire is this historic, three-storey, semi-detached cottage of 14 The Green. A fantastic setting for a group of four or two couples, the property is brimming with quirkiness and charm throughout, thanks to its history dating back to 1650! After parking on the street or in the nearby car park, make your way inside to be welcomed by a wonderfully furnished open-plan living space, where two welcoming armchairs offer you a seat in front of the woodburning stove's flickering flames. After warming yourself up by the fire, head to the shaker-style kitchen, where a good selection of appliances will help you rustle up a delicious meal to be served at the eight-seater wooden dining table.

Another fridge and a freezer can also be found in the cellar, for added convenience. After dinner, head up the winding staircase to find an exquisitely decorated sitting room which enjoys period furniture, and is where you can stretch out in front of the TV with an evening tipple. Across the way lies the well-presented bathroom, where you can enjoy a soothing soak in the bath before climbing the stairs again to find two sumptuously furnished bedrooms. Choose between a king-size and a double, both rooms enjoy sloped ceilings adorned with rustic, exposed beams. Behind the property lies a compact yet charming courtyard, where you can savour a spot of alfresco dining; during the cooler months, be sure to throw some logs into the woodburning stove to keep you warm!

If you can bear to tear yourself away from the cottage, spend some time exploring the town and what lies beyond; historically much of the town's wealth was based on the wool trade with many of the wool merchants' houses remaining the same today as they were when built, in the 16th and 17th centuries. Why not visit the Grade 1 listed Market House, for centuries the hub of the town and location of the markets held twice a week (the word 'chipping' in Old English means 'market')? Today, Tetbury is well-known for its independent shops, including antiques, vintage and interiors, exclusive boutiques and the Highgrove shop (Prince Charles lives just down the road at Highgrove).

Throughout the year the town is hosts a range of events, many of which reflect the town's rich heritage: these include include the Wacky Races (May Day), the Woolsack Races, a long standing tradition which requires 65lb woolsacks to be carried by the contestants up and down the 1 in 4 hill Gumstool Hill (Spring Bank Holiday), Summer show (Aug), Food & Drink Festival (Sept), Tetbury Music Festival (Oct) & Christmas in Tetbury Lights Switch-on (early Dec). Further afield the lush rolling countryside that surrounds Tetbury is home to a stunning array of attractions from the National Arboretum at Westonbirt to the glorious Elizabethan Chavenage House used for many famous films and TV series, the Arts & Crafts Manor at Rodmarton & finally HRH Prince of Wales’ unique garden at Highgrove.

There are also numerous equestrian events including Badminton Horse Trials, Gatcombe Festival of British Eventing & Beaufort Polo. Whatever time of year you choose to visit 14 The Green, you will find something to keep you entertained.

Tetbury's old streets still have a lot of character. The town dates back to 681, but it was during the Middle Ages that it grew to prominence as one of the most important marketplaces for Cotswold wool. Nowadays, The Market Hall has a lively general market every Wednesday, and the town as a whole is something of an antique hunting hotspot, with various stores and frequent fairs in the area.Forestry Commission's Westonbirt Arboretum, one of Europe's largest collections of rare shrubs and trees, is also nearby, making for a lovely day out.
