About this property

Spa Changing Rooms is an eye-catching, historic looking grade ll listed cottage, located between the bustling market town of Stow-on-the-Wold and Lower Swell. Beautifully restored, this former Spa is one of three cottages originally erected over 200 years ago to rival spa facilities in nearby Cheltenham and Bath.

Step into the property directly into the sitting room which has beautiful exposed beams, flagstone floor and exposed Cotswold stone with a warming woodburning stove to warm yourself on a cold winter day. Make use of the window seat and peer out of the historic feature windows whilst enjoying a warm mug of tea.

The well-equipped kitchen provides everything you need for your stay and has lovely exposed beams and smart granite worktops. An original stairway leads down to the cellar which is visible from the kitchen, giving sight to the original springs for the spa – the cellar is not accessible to guests.

Once you’ve cooked up a storm in the kitchen, gather with your guests in the dining room that houses a stunning long case clock and distinctive preserved and framed original leaded windows, giving a real historic feel to the property.

When sleep calls, head up to the first floor where you will find two lovely, bright and characterful bedrooms, both containing king-size beds, one of which can be changed to twin beds on request, and one boasting beautiful rural views. The bathroom hosts a stunning toll-top bath, perfect for total relaxation after a long day.

Heading up to the second floor, you will find bedroom three in the eaves of the cottage; a characterful room, housing a single bed and admirable exposed beams.

The garden can be accessed via the French doors in the dining room and is predominantly lawn, with a sweet decked area to the rear, hosting seating for six, parasol and barbecue, overlooking the rural views of Abbotswood Estate.

You will find plenty to do in and around Lower Swell; the village itself is a village and parish, located on the River Dikler, just over one mile from the popular and bustling market town of Stow-on-the-Wold and was developed around the 17th century and holds a lot of history. Neighbouring market town Stow-on-the-Wold is home to plenty of amenities including tea rooms, individual shops, pubs, restaurants and art galleries. If you want to discover the history of Stow, take a walk around the market square, where you will find the town stock at one end which dates back to the 15th Century and is shaded by an old Elm Tree and at the opposite end, you will find the ancient Market Cross, originally erected as a symbolic reminder to traders of the times to deal honestly and fairly. St Edward’s Parish Church is known for its enchanting looking tree surrounding the doorway and it is here you will find a memorial of those who fought in the last Civil War.

Further afield you will find Bourton-on-the-Water which is a village straddling the River Windrush, it’s known for its low bridges and traditional stone houses. Make a visit to Birdland which is home to over 500 species of birds including parrots, owls and king penguins, plus life-size model dinosaurs, or discover a miniature replica of the Cotswold-stone village at The Model Village.

There are plenty of walking and cycling trails in and around Lower Swell for you to discover, so pop on your walking boots and explore the local area.

For a fantastic trip to the Cotswolds, stay at Spa Changing Rooms.

Lower Swell is every inch the classic Cotswolds village. Surrounded by rolling countryside this is quintessential Cotswolds in many ways. A cracking local pub is literally around the corner (run by a local brewery) along with a host of beautiful buildings including a pretty church. As you'd expect there are many walks into the surrounding countryside. As the cottage is located on the way 'out' of Lower Swell it is also very close Stow on the Wold, which is about 1 mile away, a 10 min walk up a foot path.
