About this property

Nestled in the quiet village of Little Rissington, is this contemporary Grade ll listed, 17th century Cotswold stone cottage, The Old Farmhouse. This spacious dwelling is perfect for a family of six and boasts a perfect mix of contemporary decor and character features, giving a real home-from-home feel.

Conveniently park your cars in the off-road parking spaces, before approaching the wonderful abode and unloading your luggage in through the back door which opens up into the large, dual aspect kitchen/diner that is well-equipped for everything the budding chef of the group requires to cook up a delicious home-cooked meal before you all gather at the dining table in either the kitchen/diner or the separate dining room to toast to an enjoyable holiday ahead.

Take the conversation into the beautiful, dual aspect sitting room, home to striking oak beams, stone mullion windows and a large inglenook fireplace containing an inviting wood burning stove that you can get crackling away as you enjoy some evening nibbles whilst watching a DVD on the flat screen TV.

A handy cloakroom completes the ground floor excellently and contains a basin and WC.

When night falls, make your way up the stairs to the first floor where you will find two welcoming bedrooms; bedroom two is a stylish, dual aspect room where you can watch the world go by at the window seat through the stone mullion windows and get a good rest in the super-king-size bed, the third bedroom is perfect for children and contains twin beds with striking oak beams and stone mullion windows.

A steep, narrow staircase with low beams leads you up to the master bedroom in the eaves which sits on the entire second floor, the room is framed by ancient oak beams, contains and king-size bed and benefits from its own stylish en-suite bathroom with a freestanding bath for you to indulge in.

Start your morning with an invigorating rinse in the shower room located on the first floor, before making yourself a coffee and heading to the patio terrace which houses an outdoor dining set and a sweet garden bench for you to enjoy and breath in the fresh country air.

Once you’re ready for the day, surround yourself in the stunning countryside, with Little Rissington having a number of walks and cycle routes on its doorstep, including those over to Great Rissington, home to The Lamb Inn, and others towards the much-loved Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ due to the low arched bridges that cross over the River Windrush, which boasts a variety of popular shops and attractions such as Cotswolds Antiques and Tea Room and the lovely Kingsbridge riverside pub, as well as Birdland Park and Gardens where you can surround yourself in the wildlife. If you want to see natural beauty, head to Greystones Farm & Nature Reserve which is home to wildflower meadows, working organic farm, Iron Age ramparts, a replica Iron Age roundhouse and an interactive Discovery Barn; offering time out from the hustle and bustle of the village centre, this reserve is open to public all year round and is not to be missed.

For a touch of history, head to Stow-on-the-Wold, which is the highest of the Cotswold villages, and take a walk around the market square, where you will find the town stock at one end which dates back to the 15th Century and is shaded by an old Elm Tree and at the opposite end, you will find the ancient Market Cross, originally erected as a symbolic reminder to traders of the times to deal honestly and fairly. Take a stroll over to St Edward’s Parish Church where you will find the enchanting looking tree surrounded doorway; it is here you will find a memorial of those who fought in the last Civil War.

Nearby Burford, known as Southern “gateway to the Cotswolds”, is perched upon a hill and the high street is lined with charming antique shops, boutique stores, and cafés, here you can visit Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens where you will find over 250 species of animals and be inspired by the beautiful landscaping and seasonal displays throughout the park.

A fantastic stay is waiting to be had at The Old Farmhouse.

Little Rissington is a quiet village outside the popular destination of Bourton-on-the-Water, Little Rissington is worth visiting for its 12th century church with its moving memorial to RAF servicemen. The village styling is typical for the Cotswolds; small cottages fronted by flower-boxes.

Associations are always made between the village and RAF Little Rissington, the air base which was located relatively close. The base is gone now, though buildings still remain and have now become the new village of Upper Rissington, and the aerodrome is now used for hang-gliding.

The main attraction is the 12th century church, which lies apart from the village up a short path to the west of the road. On Pound Lane is a row of Cotswold stone cottages described as perhaps the best example in Gloucestershire of 17th century vernacular building.
