The Roost is a classic Grade II period cottage, set in the heart of Coln St. Aldwyns, part of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The cottage’s picture perfect exterior fits beautifully into the idyllic, rural village. Built in 1823 as a stable, the property has undergone refurbishment to the exacting standards required for modern living whilst retaining many classic features. Traditional flagstone floors, oak beams and wood burning stove combine to make The Roost a quintessential Cotswolds cottage full of cosy character. Outside there are views over rolling meadowland where a wealth of countryside walks and hikes are to be found. The central village location makes lazy days of rest and relaxation an easy option. Only a brief two minute stroll away, discover the fine village pub and the local village shop, providing all of the weekend shopping essentials as well as a post office and coffee shop.
Coln St. Aldwyns is one of five pretty villages in South Gloucestershire known as cheqs (Coln St. Aldwyns, Hatherop, Eastleach, Querington and Southrop). Each village is as lovely as the next and well worth visiting to see their Cotswold stone cottages, village greens and parish churches. Just 3 miles away from Coln St. Aldwyns lies Bibury which can be reached on foot via a scenic walk through wondrous countryside. A little further afield are the attractive market towns of Cirencester, Fairfield and Burford where a wide range of independent and antique shops, pubs, restaurants, tea shops, and fascinating architecture can be found. Coln St. Aldwyns can be reached in less than 2 hours’ drive from London making it perfect for weekend getaways, although once there, you may wish you had booked to stay longer.

We were really pleased with this very cosy and comfortably cottage which was extremely well fitted out with everything one needed, particularly in the kitchen. Mention must be made of Carole our housekeeper who was fantastic before during and after our stay and who keeps the cottage in tip top condition. We also loved the village with its friendly local people, shop and pub. We usually like to stay in a different cottage each time we visit the Cottswolds but we just might have to go back to this one.
