About this property

Perched on a quiet lane, close to the heart of the beautiful village of Blockley, rests this double-fronted, traditional honey-coloured Cotswold stone cottage, Jackdaw Cottage.

The cottage is the perfect base for a family or group of friends who are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and spend some time in an idyllic countryside setting in the Cotswolds.

Park up in the convenient parking space, before unloading your bags and being greeted by the pretty courtyard garden bordered by shrubs and flowers, that has a sweet picnic bench.

The front door opens into the smart farmhouse-style kitchen/diner where you can listen to your favourite songs through the Bluetooth speaker whilst you put your culinary skills to the test using the electric oven and gas hob, and make use of the dishwasher for cleaning up! Gather with your loved ones around the large pine dining table to indulge in your heart-warming meal and why not uncork a bottle of wine to toast to a wonderful holiday that lies before you!?

Have a relaxing evening in the beautiful sitting room whilst watching a film on the TV, as the warmth from the woodburning stove creates a lovely atmosphere in the air, or get some peace and quiet in the inviting snug room that sits adjacent to the sitting room which houses a large single sofa bed that is available on request.

Climb the stairs to the first floor where you will find two well-appointed bedrooms, the master contains a super-king-size bed (zip/link, can be twin on request), and a king-size room, both perfect for having a restful night. A sofa bed is available upon request at £50 per booking, allowing the property to sleep a total of 5.

Start your day off well with an invigorating rinse in the large walk-in shower before getting ready to head out for the day into the picturesque village of Blockley which has a country pub, The Great Western Arms, a historic Norman church, Church of St Peter and St Paul, and the popular community owned shop and café which serves delicious food during the day and hosts a couple of dinner evenings too.

Surrounded by wonderful countryside, there are many walks and cycle routes on its doorstep including The Monarch’s Way long distance walking trail which passes through the village and can be followed either north to Chipping Campden or up and over the ridge towards Moreton-in-Marsh, skirting the fringes of Batsford Arboretum which is a 56-acre garden with trees and shrubs from around the world in the plant centre and a café.

At Jackdaw Cottage, you are close to the bustling market town of Stow-on-the-Wold where you can take a walk around the market square, which is the heart of the community and offers boutique shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, as well as the Farmers’ Market which occurs every second Thursday of each month, featuring inviting local produce.

For a perfect getaway, choose Jackdaw Cottage.

An ancient village once famous for its silk and corn mills, Blockley lies just 3 miles from Moreton-in-Marsh and features a unique collection of honey-coloured buildings with a pretty village green, two excellent pubs, serving hearty food and real ale, as well as a village store and café, serving dinner on a Friday night. Many walks and cycle rides through the beautiful rolling countryside of the Cotswolds can be enjoyed from the centre of the village, with the Macmillan Way, Heart of England Way and the Gloucestershire and Monarch's Way all running close by. Very close by, Moreton-in-Marsh boasts many elegant 18th century buildings and is home to traditional inns, tea rooms, restaurants and individual shops to suit all tastes. It also offers its own train station and lies on the intersection of the Paddington rail line from London. The town hosts the Moreton-In-Marsh Show, one of the UK's largest one-day agricultural shows, as well as the Moreton Beer Festival, an annual French Market, and a large outdoor market every Tuesday. The highest town in the Cotswolds, this ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly farmers' market. Close by is Bourton-on-the-Water, which lies in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is known as the Venice of the Cotswolds as the River Windrush runs through the centre. Also within reach is the spa town of Cheltenham, boasting an incredible range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants and pubs, as well as being famous for its horseracing festival in March, culminating in the Gold Cup steeplechase. Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath, Worcester and the waterfront city of Gloucester are also within driving distance, making Blockley a great base for a Cotswolds holiday.

The hosts decorated the house beautifully for the Christmas season, and we were welcomed to a clean and cosy home. The property was furnished with stylish and original features, and we found the beds, sofa, and chairs to be extremely comfortable. The hosts were very generous in leaving us a Pannetone, juice, and fruits as a welcoming treat. The warmth of the house and the logs provided for the fireplace made the Christmas feel even more special. The kitchen had everything we needed for our short trip, and we were able to cook a delicious Christmas meal using the oven. The bathroom was also completed to a high standard and had a lovely rainfall-style shower head. The bathroom is the only bathroom, which is shared among all guests. The property can comfortably accommodate four people and a dog. The car parking space was also very convenient, and we were able to park our small MPV with ease. Previous reviews have commented on the parking and we had no issues with this. We found it easier to reverse down the very quiet T road and parking in the space. Otherwise, if you aren't a confident parker, you can park on the main road and it is a 20-second walk to the property, down the slope. The village of Blockley is picturesque and typical Cotswold look and stone properties. The village has two pubs, a small café, and an excellent shop that sells local food items. We particularly enjoyed visiting the Great Western Arms (a less than 2 min walk from Jacdaw cottage), which is dog friendly and had a great selection of food and drinks and very friendly, welcoming staff. Overall, we had a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas stay at Jacdaw Cottage, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. We would happily and look forward to booking this beautiful cottage again.

There were just two of us but would be quite small for four adults although certainly both double bedrooms were very pleasant and the whole property is very well presented. Well equipped kitchen with nice welcome with milk, tea and coffee, crisps, biscuits and chocolates. Lovely and warm (it was November) and super cosy with wood burner in the evening in the comfortable sitting room. Super little bathroom with excellent hot shower. Good Wi Fi as you would expect for a small place. Wasn’t quite sure where to put recyclable waste so it would be helpful to leave some instructions for bottles and cans, paper and food waste etc. Other reviewers have quite rightly commented on the parking which is basically impossible, not just the size of the spot but the very steep slope (prob about 1:3) leading down. Top tip is don’t even try to drive down to the cottage but park on Station Road as it’s only 20 yards or so to walk down. However Blockley is a lovely village, the food at the local pub (The Great Western Arms) was excellent. Overall a very good place.

We had a very happy short break at Jackdaw Cottage - helped by amazingly sunny autumnal weather. The cottage is very cosy with everything you could possibly need including very comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. It’s a wonderful village to walk round with a community cafe and village shop, great pub up the road ( delicious food) and the church featured in Father Brown. In easy driving distance of so many beautiful villages, NT properties and gardens. Highly recommended!
