About this property

Foxtail Cottage sits within a charming terraced row of mid 19th century cottages with enviable rear views over a deer park and rolling Cotswold countryside. This three-storey cottage provides a perfect blend of old and new and is ideal for a break in the Cotswolds throughout the seasons.

Originally built for the workers of the many silk mills operating in the village during the mid 19th century, Foxtail Cottage has been lovingly renovated and fully modernised and features a stunning Cotswold stone fireplace and open fire, Aga and pretty garden with sun terrace.

At the ground level you will be greeted via an entrance hall into the impressive, dual aspect sitting and dining area with Cotswold stone inglenook fireplace, oak flooring and tasteful furnishings, perfect for retiring to when evening draws in. Downstairs at the lower ground level is a delightful surprise with a beautiful kitchen complete with Aga, leading into the light filled garden room; furnished as a second sitting room to enjoy the wonderful rear views by day and features bi-folding doors out to the decked area overlooking the pretty garden. The garden leads you down a few steps to a large sun terrace with sun loungers, a bistro set, charcoal barbecue and chiminea. There are often deer in the park directly behind the sun terrace and if you are lucky, they will wander right up to the perimeter fence! The two charming first floor bedrooms are beautifully presented and will suit either two couples or a family with young children who are happy to share the double bed in the second bedroom. Also on this level is a modern shower room with a large walk-in shower.

Blockley is a delightful golden stone village, situated within the rolling hills of the North Cotswolds between Moreton-in-Marsh (with direct rail links to London Paddington) and Chipping Campden, with an abundance of walks over the surrounding countryside. Blockley's beautiful church, churchyard and vicarage are used for the filming of "Father Brown", a period BBC detective drama. The village boasts many other historic buildings including a converted water mill along the brook; a fabulous community run café and well stocked shop and two pubs within walking distance. Also nearby are Stow-on-the-Wold, Broadway, and Bourton-on-the-Water.

39 Foxtail Cottage is also available to book for two guests, with use of the master bedroom only (please see separate listing).

Loved the situation and the view. The cottage was well decorated.and we absolutely loved Blockley. The garden room, terrace and views were really fantastic and made our holiday. Some small criticisms - at this level we would expect a washer drier, not just a washer (that is apart from the fact that no-one told us the washing machine was out of order and was only fixed the day before we left....so we had to hand wash some clothes!). My husband found the lighting in some rooms poor particularly the living room. Needed brighter bulbs. We had to turn the AGA off as it was so hot and would have appreciated some step by step guide as to how to turn it on...our mechanically minded son in law looked it up on line and finally worked it out...but without him we would have been stuck. It would also be an idea to put summer duvets on the bed during July and August...we were roasting! A couple of kitchen things that would have been appreciated: some oven gloves....and if I am being very fussy a spaghetti scoop! Also, although the bread bin is fun...the bread you leave doesn't fit into it! Apart from these niggles we really did have a lovely time and we enjoyed the generous welcome hamper. We have already told others good things about the cottage.
