Located four miles south-west of Stow-on-the-Wold, Lower Slaughter is a small village in the Cotswold county of Gloucestershire, England. The settlement spans both sides of the slow-moving River Eye, which flows through Upper Slaughter and under two footbridges. A water mill built in the 19th century at the western edge of the settlement uses an undershot waterwheel and a chimney to generate steam. In the middle of the village, where the river widens, is a ford crossed by many small stone footbridges. St. Mary's Church, a picturesque structure, can be seen in Lower Slaughter. St. Peter's Church in Upper Slaughter is a historic Norman building with elements dating back to the 12th century, while the reconstructed church and its spectacular spire date to the 1867. Travelers will find everything they need in the village, including a gas station and a classic tavern called The Slaughters Country Inn. Bourton-on-the- The Birdland Park & Gardens, Cotswold Motoring Museum & Toy Collection, and Greystones Farm Nature Reserve in nearby Water provide for a delightful day trip.

A lovely cottage tastefully decorated and with good features (walk in shower room etc). Very comfortable bed and sofas. We missed having a manual or local information file, so we were not aware of bin collection day, or what should be recycled etc. We feel that the owner should provide some form of heating in the kitchen as it was very cold when we visited (minus four outside...). Would stay again, in warmer weather.

It has parking right outside and was a good base to explore around the area. Unfortunately we didn’t feel the cleanliness or upkeep of the property was to a good standard. There were spiders and bugs all over the house, it was also very dusty. The property was left freezing cold on our arrival and it took 48 hours to get it to a decent temperature. We have a young baby and this was therefore very disappointing. The kitchen also has no heating and is therefore always very cold. It was such a shame as this property could and should be a fantastic place to stay.
