Guests are captivated by the stunning views and excellent location of Gwillen, a cottage in Cornwall. The property offers comfortable beds, a well-equipped kitchen, and is praised for its proximity to the beach and coastal paths. While some guests mention the need for maintenance and a more thorough clean, the overall experience is positive, with many looking forward to returning.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The property generally meets cleanliness standards, but several reviews mention cobwebs, dust, and dirty windows. These issues seem to be sporadic rather than systemic, suggesting that while the property is clean, there is room for improvement in attention to detail.

The location is consistently praised for its breathtaking views, proximity to the beach, and access to coastal walks. It is a standout feature that contributes significantly to the enjoyment of the guests' stays.

Guests find the beds very comfortable and the living spaces cosy. However, some reviews suggest that the sofas and dining chairs could be more comfortable, indicating that while the property is generally comfortable, some furnishings may need updating.

The property is well-equipped with amenities like a Nespresso machine and outdoor shower. However, guests have reported issues with maintenance such as broken door handles, shower controls, and a need for larger mirrors. These comments indicate that while facilities are good, there is a noticeable need for maintenance.

There is insufficient information to assess thoughtfulness as there are no specific mentions of gifts or special touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

About this property

Boasting a prime location elevated high above the golden beach at Mawgan Porth, this welcoming family home enjoys glorious sea views and is just a 10-minute walk from the sand and surf. The perfect pad for those seeking a week of fresh sea air, Gwillen offers a fantastic seaside holiday with all the homely comforts you could wish for. Spacious throughout, this dormer bungalow has a fantastic sea-facing conservatory, a cosy sitting room with open fire, handy utility/boot area, smart kitchen diner with plenty of books and family board games, and four good-sized bedrooms: one of which is located under the eaves on the first floor and makes a snug den for young children. Outside is a well-kept tiered garden with a lawn and a patio, and outdoor furniture for dinner with a view! There's even an outdoor shower -perfect for rinsing away sandy feet; and a garage where bikes and surf boards can be safely stored. Do as much or as little as the mood takes you here: head down to the beach and learn a few tricks at the surf school, grab a bucket and see what you can find in the rock pools, discover stunning sea vistas with a walk along the coastal footpath, or simply relax with a Spa day at the Bedruthan Steps Hotel or adults-only Scarlet Hotel. A short drive away are some great family days out, including Newquay Zoo, Waterworld, St Eval Kart Circuit and the Blue Reef Aquarium; and the area has also become something of a foodie Mecca, with restaurants owned by Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth in the popular harbour town of Padstow, and Wax Watergate Bay restaurant overlooking the waves at Watergate Bay. Whatever time of year you choose to visit, there is something for everyone here.

Mawgan Porth boasts golden sands set against the dramatic landscape of cliffs and caves, topped with the coastal footpath with spectacular views over the north Cornish shoreline. Get set with nets and buckets to explore rock pools or hire a board and join the surf school for some wet fun, with lifeguards on patrol during the main season. For those that seek a more leisurely escape, enjoy the Spa facilities at The Scarlet Hotel and The Bedruthan Hotel. After any activity, there is refreshment to be had at the beach cafe and restaurant.

Situated down a private road means it is quiet and there is a lovely coastal walk with again amazing views of the beautiful Cornish coast. Cleanliness was great and beds really comfortable. Highly recommended for a peaceful, active, energetic, beach or walking holiday. Loved it!

. The sofas were uncomfortable and needed refreshing. One of the kitchen chairs had a split where a leg was starting to show. Bedroom 1 had a broken door handle which was lying on the floor in the hallway. I had one issue which I rang and left a voicemail to on the Saturday evening. I had no response!! The issue was a mouse which ran across the living room!! I didn’t pursue this as we had a dog with us which made addressing the problem difficult. But, why leave a number to contact if a response isn’t forthcoming. The house provided everything I hoped for regarding location and view. I would recommend as issues were minor but I feel caretaker should have returned my call!!

We absolutely love the views and the area. I understand some renovation work is due to be completed shortly and suggest that the sofas need an overhaul as they are getting a little uncomfortable.
