    About this property

This stunning, modern ground floor apartment is set a very short walk from the centre of Chester. Ideal for a couple looking for a romantic retreat, this apartment is in a fantastic position and has been thoughtfully decorated throughout with a stylish vintage theme. You enter into a hallway with a characterful tiled floor which leads through to the comfortable bedroom on your left. With unique accessories and furniture this is a lovely room which looks out onto the courtyard garden. At the rear of the apartment is the contemporary open plan living area with a cosy seating space where you can curl up with your loved one after spending the day discovering the local attractions. The well-equipped kitchen area has plenty of space to cook delicious home-cooked meals which can then be enjoyed in the dining area. On summer evenings you can take advantage of the pretty courtyard and take your meal outside or enjoy a glass of wine together. A short walk from your door are a selection of pubs and restaurants so if you fancy a night off from cooking it isn’t too far to go! You could then stroll along the River Dee or the city walls and discover this fantastic city. For a day out Chester Zoo is a must or you could try your luck at the races. There is something for everyone in this city from shopping and sightseeing to boat trips and tours. You are also within easy reach of the North Wales coast where you can enjoy the sandy beaches or head to Snowdonia National Park which is around an hour’s drive. Providing such an ideal base to return to at the end of the day, this apartment has everything you’re looking for.

Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park.

"Nice walks on The Meadows, Duke’s Drive etc. The only quibble would be the sofa is tiny and uncomfortable, only really fits one person. For people with mobility problems please be aware that although everything is on the ground floor, there are 3 internal steps and a long distance between the bedroom and the bathroom."

"An earlier review reported on drafty windows and insufficient heating however that is no longer the case. The flat has new double glazing throughout and has its own boiler providing hot water and heating and the owner's actively encourage you to use this and keep warm. The only drawback for us was the seating arrangements in the lounge consisting of an old two seater settee and a rocking chair. These need replacing as they are past their best and the settee is very low and lightly padded. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the location perfect for exploring the beautiful city of Chester. We hope to return."

"A tip for the owner : Don't site your heating thermostat next to the radiator because whilst the hallway may be nice and warm it's actually 2-3 degrees colder in the lounge. Regrettably, the bathroom never got very warm - it's several degrees colder than the lounge - as it's a flat roof with a seating area for the owners above it and the resulting heat loss through the roof is considerable. It's also a good idea to keep the curtains drawn in the bedroom as the old sash window doesn't shut properly. It's clearly jammed slightly open and has been painted over. I'm surprised that when the extension was built, it wasn't replaced at the same time. Regardless, there is a horrendous draft through the gap between the two halves of the window. The TV seems subject to continual loss of signal. There is a DVD player not mentioned in the details so it might be an idea to bring some DVDs to watch as the TV is quite dated, doesn't have a USB socket and keeps cutting out. Curiously when the upstairs people are out, the TV works a lot better so maybe it's the wiring? As regards the kitchen, the oven could do with a good clean, the roasting tin and wire rack ditto. Two of the white dishes in the drawer hadn't been thoroughly cleaned. Sufficient dishes for two people as long as you use the small dishwasher frequently. Adequate but not exactly generously equipped. There is a hair dryer but this is not mentioned on the description so plus point for equipment, minus point for accuracy. You should add it to the description. Noise insulation is not great maybe because it's an old house? You can't fail to be aware that there are people living upstairs, particularly at 6am when they take a shower. The main saviour of this place is that it's a great location and an easy walk into the city centre. For that reason I would rate it as OK, but only just. There's nothing welcoming when you arrive, not even a card, cheap bottle of plonk or a few flowers, although curiously all of these seem to appear in the photographs on the website. As regards themselves, be aware that if you rent a place through them - or even enquire on their website - their marketing is aggressive and you should expect to be subjected to a torrent of unsolicited, persistent, unwanted, unecessary and nagging emails"

"As has been expressed in other reviews that I read on the site, the apartment was cold although adjusting the timer and thermostat solved some of this problem. "We suggest a step stool could be provided. The bath has no grab handles or edges to grip so makes it difficult to take a bath. At this time of year we think the heating on for longer at a lower setting would be more comfortable and possibly more economical. Overall we would have no problem recommending the property to younger people. It is ideally situated for the city and the bus was a bonus."
