With its pretty green shutters, wood-beamed ceiling and stunning setting in a beautifully preserved 19th century park, Casa Santa Stefano offers a characterful abode perfectly positioned in one of the country’s most culturally rich regions. Whether teeing off on the estate’s 18-hole golf course or spending the day visiting Verona or Venice, this is a wonderful holiday home in the heart of the Veneto region of northern Italy.
Casa Santa Stefano sits on a hilltop with panoramic views that feel lifted from a Romantic-era painting. Listen to music beside the roaring fire in the open-plan living and dining room with its elegant period-style furnishings. Prepare meals in the well-equipped kitchen, best served al-fresco on the vine-clad terrace as summer approaches. For warmer months, air-conditioning can be requested (for a supplement).
Up to 8 guests can sleep across four en suite bedrooms with a double and twin on each floor, each one with an en suite bathroom. The ground floor bedrooms open to the garden, one with its own fireplace, whilst two first-floor rooms can be found beneath the characterful ceilings with little windows peeking out to the surrounding nature. A light-filled lounge in the upper hallway is such a delightful spot for relaxing, perhaps with a glass of prosecco from the nearby vineyards of Colli Euganei.
Set within a peaceful corner of the estate, it’s just a leisurely stroll or quick drive to the golf clubhouse and the shared summer swimming pool. Spend slow mornings wandering through parkland, enjoy a round of golf with discounted green fees or head into the hills for scenic hiking and cycling trails. For a deeper taste of Veneto’s cultural richness, the historic cities of Padua and Vicenza are within easy reach or hop on a train to Venice to experience one of the world's most iconic destinations.
Casa Santo Stefano is located within a beautiful 19th century private park in the Veneto region of northern Italy. This is a fine location for soaking up the history and culture of this wonderful part of the country – recommended day trips include Padua, Verona and Venice.
The house sits in the heart of the estate on a hilltop with evocative views of your surroundings – you can even see the foothills of the Alps on a very clear day. It’s around a 10-minute walk to the estate’s shared summer swimming pool – guests enjoy complimentary access during certain months (please see the “T&Cs” tab for opening dates/times and regulations). The golf’s clubhouse with its restaurant and bar is a little further (around a 15-minute walk or short drive) and guests benefit from discounted green fees at the 18-hole golf course (excluding Sundays before 3.00 p.m.).
You can enjoy wonderful walks across this beautifully preserved private estate with its 120 hectares of meadows and rolling hills. Discover the 18th century artificial grottos (which can be visited on request) and the neoclassical-style villa, once a hunting pavilion, which is open for Italian tours on certain days. Please note the estate, villa and grottos are open to the public on Sundays (and some Saturdays/public holidays).
Enthusiastic walkers will relish the scenic trails winding through the Euganean Hills Regional Park, with routes beginning right from the estate. The wider region also offers excellent cycling and mountain biking opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.
When it comes to day trips, this part of northern Italy presents a wealth of treasures. Just a short drive away, the sophisticated university city of Padua (22km) impresses with its rich cultural heritage, from Giotto’s renowned frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel to the bustling piazzas around the Basilica of Saint Anthony. Head west to Vicenza (25km), known for its elegant Palladian villas and striking Renaissance buildings, or travel an hour to Verona (82km), a city steeped in romance, history and architectural splendour.
Venice (62km) also beckons with its maze of canals, ornate palazzi and incredible Byzantine beauty. A direct fast train from Padua reaches Venice Santa Lucia in under 30 minutes, or a regional service offers a 45-minute journey – both routes are especially magical as you approach the iconic city.
