About this property

Fonte Igea is a restored stone home which is located in the green hills of Tuscany. Here you can enjoy relaxing in the serene rural surroundings and yet not feel cut-off as the closest town is less than 5km away.

This home is a new holiday villa which has been completed recently, but the building itself is centuries old and inside you will see period features such as wooden beams and feature fireplace. The owners have taken care to preserve the historic feel of the house by using local tiles, neutral tones and quality furnishings throughout.

As you enter the villa on the ground floor you will walk in to a vast, open-plan room with comfortable sofas and a dining table where your party can gather for evening meals. Also, on this floor you will find a family bathroom and the modern, fully-fitted kitchen. Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms to choose from when you wish to unwind, all of which are spacious and have en-suite bathrooms.

The villa is surrounded by a fantastic garden which enjoys panoramic views of the hills and woodland. The garden has lawned areas, an al-fresco dining table and an inviting private pool lined with sun loungers. It is truly the perfect oasis for a lazy afternoon in the sun!

This charming villa is set close to the stunning Val d’Orcia and is enveloped by olive groves, vineyards and hiking trails. Close to the house you can also experience the natural thermal waters which the area is famous for at the ancient baths or in the exclusive Fonteverde spa which is under 4km away. The spa is a wonderful place to have so close and offers massages, beauty treatments and therapeutic thermal pools.

The closest amenities to the home can be found under 5km away in San Casciano dei Bagni. This pretty town has a good range of shops, cafes and restaurants which line the historic streets. The town is also a lovely spot for an afternoon stroll around the medieval walls after which you can pay a visit to the Church of St Anthony. San Casciano dei Bagni is off the usual tourist trails, so for dinner you can enjoy authentic Tuscan dishes with a fabulous view of the valley below.

This area of Tuscany, surrounding Siena is filled with picturesque towns and villages which are brimming with historic architecture and attractions. Sarteano is one such place which is under 20km away from the house. A hilltop village nestled between the Val d'Orcia and the Valdichiana, it has a number of shops and eateries as well as a thriving market held on a Friday. If you a history lover then Sarteano should definitely be part of your itinerary: you can see the castle which is over 1000 years old with a draw bridge, prison cells and gardens and visit the Palazzo Gabrielli which was once an elegant Renaissance home and is now an archaeological museum. You can also watch history come to life in July and August at the Medieval festival where you can witness knights jousting in suits of armour and view parades, dances and plays.

If you wish to head a little further afield on a day trip you could visit Lake Trasimeno which is lined with lake beaches and is 40km away or the delightful city of Siena which is 100km from the villa and can be reached in around 90-minutes by car.

Fonte Igea is ideally located for a holiday exploring the hills and the delightful towns of the province of Siena in Tuscany. The home is enveloped by woodlands and yet nearby villages and towns can be easily reached.
Just over 5km away in San Casciano dei Bagni is where you can find the closest amenities to the villa. In town there are restaurants, shops and bakeries along the quaint, medieval streets. The town hall, the imposing Fighine castle and the ancient churches are just a few of the places you can visit as you walk around the town. Make sure to stop to see the Bagno Grande which is an original public thermal bath. It is still in use today so you are welcome to take a dip as many of the locals do.
The nearby town of Cetona which is 15km away is another charming place to visit and has been counted amongst Italy’s most beautiful towns. The town is located on a mountain which is renowned for its amazing archaeological finds and artifacts and you can view some of these in the archaeological park. Cetona also has some captivating piazzas where you can enjoy a morning coffee and a pastry while watching the world go by.
Another town worth visiting is Chiusi which is 22km away. This serene town has seen lots of change through history and started as an Etruscan settlement in 700BC. When in town make sure to take a look at the incredible underground tunnels filled with burial chambers and supposed hidden treasure. There is also a fresco-filled cathedral, little churches, plus a number of fascinating museums where you can find out more about the area. If you stop for lunch, sample the Picci con sugo, which is a tasty handmade pasta dish which you can find in a family run café.
Pienza is 45km away and is a Renaissance town which comes highly recommended to visitors. This unesco World Heritage Site was built with wealth generated by Pope Pius II who came from this region. Whether you visit for the staggering views over the Val d'Orcia or to see the awe-inspiring Papal residence you will not be disappointed. Wine lovers will enjoy taking a wine tour around the town; take in the sights while stopping off to try local wines along the way, with the help of a guide.
It would be a shame to miss out on a visit to Siena which is 100km from the villa. It is wise to set off early to make the most of your visit as there is lots to keep you occupied. The Palazzo Publico and the gorgeous Duomo are unmissable and for the best views of the surrounding hills why not climb up the Torre del Mangia which is an 800-year-old tower.
