Granny Kate's Cottage offers a truly authentic and charming Irish experience, with its historic character, beautiful rural setting, and peaceful atmosphere. Guests consistently praise the unique ambience, comfortable beds, and stunning views, making it an ideal base for exploring Donegal. While the cottage's traditional features are a highlight, some guests noted minor issues with kitchen cleanliness, coin-operated utilities, and maintenance. Overall, the property is well-loved for its originality, tranquillity, and the opportunity to step back in time, with many guests eager to return.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well-maintained, especially in recent reviews. However, a few mentioned issues such as a dirty kitchen floor, a lingering smell, and some general neglect in the past. The majority of feedback is positive, but occasional lapses have been noted.
The location is widely praised for its beauty, tranquillity, and proximity to Ardara and scenic attractions. Guests highlight the stunning views, peaceful surroundings, and easy access to local sights, making it a standout feature of the property.
Guests frequently mention comfortable beds and a restful atmosphere. Some suggest improvements to mattresses and cushions, and note that the cottage can be cold without heating. Overall, comfort is rated highly, with the traditional setting adding to the experience.
Facilities are generally appreciated, especially the authentic features and turf fire. However, several guests mention the inconvenience of coin-operated heating and electricity, occasional maintenance issues with the kitchen and shower, and missing items like a tin opener. Some improvements have been made over time.
Some guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as hot water bottles, a welcome booklet, and board games (though some were incomplete). While a few reviews mention gifts like scones and wine at other properties, these are not guaranteed at Granny Kate's. Communication about coin-operated utilities has improved, but could be clearer.

The location is unbeatable, the cottage is gorgeous, well-maintained and squeaky-clean. We were a bit concerned about the kitchen after reading some older reviews but everything was clean and in great working order and we assume the cooker has been recently upgraded. We hope to be back some day.
