Steepe's Place is a traditional cottage appreciated for its quiet, countryside charm and authentic Irish touch. Guests have praised the cleanliness, the comfortable beds, and the friendly, helpful host, Betty. The property offers a peaceful retreat with good self-catering facilities and is well-located for sightseeing. Some guests mentioned additional costs for heating and electricity, and a few noted the property could benefit from modernisation.
The majority of guests found the cottage to be beautifully clean, with several positive remarks about its tidiness. However, a few guests mentioned dust and cobwebs, slightly lowering the score.
The location is frequently described as quiet, peaceful, and ideal for sightseeing, with good walks nearby. The rural setting was a highlight for many, though the remoteness may have been a challenge for some.
Guests enjoyed comfortable beds and a cosy atmosphere, but some reported issues with heating and additional charges for fuel. The firmness of the beds and the distance of the bathroom from the bedroom were noted as discomforts by a few.
The self-catering facilities were generally well-received, but guests mentioned that the property could be better maintained with updates to equipment and clearer instructions for utilities. The need for euro coins for electricity was a point of contention.
While the host, Betty, was consistently praised for her helpfulness and friendliness, there were no specific mentions of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided to guests, so a score cannot be given in this category.
A delightful, detached cottage, at the foot of the Ballyhoura Mountains in Glenosheen, 2 miles from Ardpatrick. Over 400 years old, and steeped in history, this original farm cottage has traditional thick stone walls, a stunning open fireplace, and a cosy, inviting atmosphere, that evokes a real sense of having stepped back in time. The bedrooms boast original iron bedframes and the cottage provides stunning views of Castle Oliver and the rolling countryside. Time can be spent enjoying the traditional Irish music of the Ardpatrick village pub or the many local outdoor pursuits including horse riding, fishing, and mountain walking. An ideal base for any holiday and just a 90-minute drive from Shannon Airport.
Originally built by a colony of Palatine settlers, the village of Glenosheen is located below the Ballyhoura Mountains and is just two miles from the village of Ardpatrick - named after Ireland's patron saint. St. Patrick himself is reputed to have built a church on the hill that overlooks the village - the remnants of which still exist today. The market town of Kilfannane is also close by and boasts the title of the highest town in County Limerick as well as an excellent outdoor education centre for school, youth and adult groups, offering a wide range of adventure sports and courses. These include canoeing, rock climbing, hill walking, horse riding and abseiling, giving visitors a wide range to choose from. County Limerick is rich in history and is packed with castles, museums and medieval churches.

It is a traditional cottage in the countryside and is managed by Betty, who is very sweet. We had several feline visitors (outside of the house) so if you enjoy cats then youâll have some furry friends here! The cottage itself is fairly bare bones but had everything we needed. The electricity is pay as you go, we made sure to have 1 and 2 euro coins handy and it was never really an issue. The beds are firm and are equipped with heated blankets which were great on the chilly nights. We were able to do a load of laundry (you will have to line dry) and never had issues with the WiFi. I would definitely stay here again. Good for those on a budget who donât mind a little driving.

The bed was very hard and uncomfortable The sheets were too small for the bed The quilt was too heavy plus too small The bathroom is way too far from the bedroom, being downstairs the far side of the kitchen. Not the cleanest, dust and cobwebs Very dated and needs attention in several areas of the house People walking onto the property and left gates open which I was not happy with as I've rented the whole property and had my dogs with me so this was dangerous for my dogs. We've stayed a few sykes properties with no problem at all.

Only down side was couldnât work out hot water to wash up but just filled kettle and only one knife (bread one at that) so made chopping fun and wonât stop us returning in future- lovely and quite.
