About this property

Ballinskelligs 4.5 miles. Built at the turn of the century in 1898 and lovingly restored in 2016, Kingdom Of The Hare is perched at the edge of Europe, near the beautiful St. Finian's Bay in County Kerry, offering five guests a peaceful and idyllic holiday destination. Located at the head of a glen descending towards the Atlantic, Kingdom Of The Hare stands alone, a detached two-storey cottage, featuring an open-plan layout, spiral staircase, and within reach of many popular locations, including the coastal town of Ballinskelligs. Take in the picturesque surroundings before stepping inside this picture-perfect property, being welcomed into a homely setting, with a solid fuel stove to heat you up on cooler nights, and plush seating resting atop the traditional stone slab floors. Enjoy using the classic oil-fired range cooker, brightening up the room with its cornflower blue colour, with a microwave and integrated dishwasher in here too, while a fridge/freezer and laundry facilities lie in the handy utility room. Gather at the dining table and enjoy playing a board game from the selection at the cottage, before climbing the spiral staircase next to it to retire to one of the three bedrooms; choose from a double bedroom, a twin bedroom or a single bedroom, with a cloakroom up here too. Freshen up in the ground-floor bathroom where a beautiful freestanding roll-top bath can be a place to relax, with a contemporary walk-in shower here too, you can choose how best to prepare for your day. Enjoy time out in the fully enclosed garden, hopefully spotting the cottage's namesake, some hares, while you are here, as well as admiring the various sheep and cattle too in the neighbouring fields. The property sits on the upper slopes of The Glen as it is locally known, meaning you can enjoy lovely views from all sides of the surrounding open countryside. The only surfing beach for miles, St Finian's Bay is a small sandy beach, surrounded by slate cliffs and jagged rocks, it boasts some dramatic scenery all year round, and makes a perfect activity for an active group, with the Driftwood Café, a surf-themed bar/restaurant overlooking the beach. Visit the beach over at Ballinskelligs which offers a more sheltered spot with shallow, calm waters, great for families and with its own amenities too, including a beach café, a gallery and a pub, Tig Rosie's pub. Continue to explore the wondrous Wild Atlantic Bay, heading up to Valentia Island to experience the stunning views over Bray Head and Geokaun mountain, visit The Skellig Experience Visitor Centre dedicated to the Skellig monks, with a craft shop and a café too, discover Glanleam House and Gardens and walk up to the picturesque lighthouse too. Enjoy a Sea Quest Skelligs Tour from Portmagee, and make sure to enjoy a walk along the Kerry Cliffs for some stunning scenery. Within reach too is the Ring of Kerry, Cahersiveen and Waterville. Discover a fantastic escape to the Kingdom Of The Hare in County Kerry.

We had the most fantastic week at the Kingdom of the Hare, even without wall to wall sunshine. I've never slept so well in my life and waking up to the view of the Glen and St Finan's Bay was absolutely priceless. The house is gorgeous, well equipped (although the range had us scratch our heads on the first day) and we even spotted a few hares so it lived up to its name. The host provided excellent instructions and recommendations (we paid the Driftwood café a couple of visits as it was so good and at walking distance) so thank you. I'd love to go back one day. One week just was not enough!

We did have a bit of trouble cooking and ended up adapting a couple of meals to heat on the hob as the oven turned itself off half way through cooking when the water for the rest of the house had heated up. This is not a criticism as the information at the property was quite honest; I just felt it would take me more than a week to learn to cook on a range!

Vielen Dank!
