About this property

Sligo Town 2 miles. Down a quiet country lane off a main road in County Sligo lies this lovely converted coach house, lying next to the owner's own home and outbuildings, The Old Byre is a pretty retreat with rural views. Suited to a family of four or a couple wanting a romantic break, the interior has been thoughtfully decorated with light airy colours and charming pieces of furniture. Step inside to be greeted by the centre-piece of the open-plan living space, the beautiful iron spiral staircase that draws you in, leading up to the mezzanine bedroom above. Make yourself at home within the sitting area, where a woodburning stove can provide warmth on a cold evening, as the arched coach-style windows let in the last of the sun's light, you can settle into one of the sofas with a good book or glass of wine in hand. As you relax, your loved one can be preparing a delicious meal in the kitchen area across the way, chopping up ingredients on the timber worktop, before serving it up when it's ready at the pretty country-style dining table. Steal a quiet moment within the snug reading room at the end of the property, accessed through a stable door from the kitchen, where a quirky brick and wooden table feature holds several books and windows offer views out of three sides of this little corner, creating a sun-room effect. Catch your rest at the other end, where you can find the bunk bed room with lovely touches throughout and a warming antique radiator. Ascend up the spiral staircase and relax within the beautiful double bedroom, where a white-washed bed frame and bedside tables create a lovely decor underneath the slanted timber ceiling, all in all offering an idyllic place to rest your head. Freshen up in the shower room on the ground floor, where a gorgeous ornate mirror rests over the exposed red brick above the basin, a lovely spot to get ready in. Enjoy breakfast in the warmer months sat out at the patio furniture, and in the evening when the temperature drops, light the chimenea to offer some heat. Explore your wonderful surroundings and head into Sligo Town where there is an abundance of things to do. Visit the beaches of Strandhill, Rosses Point, and Streedagh Beach for walks and waves, with a surfing school at Strandhill so you can experience the famous West Coast surf! Play a round on the Strandhill Golf Club before heading back to Sligo for a refreshing Guinness and getting to know the lively streets of this coastal Irish town. The Old Byre will be a brilliant getaway for you and your loved ones in Ireland.

Sligo is a coastal port and county town of County Sligo, being the second largest urban centre in the West of Ireland. Warm welcome by Chris, the owner. A nice place to return to. The Sligo area has so much to offer that we did not manage all we had been looking forward to. The nature around Sligo is stunning. We very much enjoyed our walks to Coney Island, the Devil’s Chimney or the hike to Queen Maeve‘s grave. Also the Strandhill people’s market at Sligo airport was lovely, with artist Tony Osborne‘s display of outstanding paintings. 5 stars for both Chris‘ cottage and the Sligo area.

Chris was a brilliant host friendly and helpful. Cottage is in a great location rural but only a few minutes into town. It was cosy and comfortable and the welcome basket of goodies was a lovely touch. We hope to visit again!

Our two boys (7 & 10) were so happy in such a calm and comfortable space. The weather was unseasonably wet and chilly when we visited Ireland but the cottage is so cosy and warm it did not matter. We spent most evenings in the sun room looking out towards the mountains - magical. The cottage is located a short distance from several beaches and the shops, pubs and restaurants of Sligo so there is loads to do and discover.
