About this property

Westport 5.5 miles. Nestled on the water's edge of Rosmoney Pier, in scenic County Mayo, is this stone-built cottage, Tom’s Cottage, just an hour's drive from Knock Airport. Enjoying a serene setting overlooking the water and boats, Tom’s Cottage welcomes families and couples seeking a relaxing base in this glorious region. Upon arrival, park up in the spacious driveway before stepping through the half door into the living room. Get comfortable on the sofa as you listen to the crackle of the woodburner, or tune into the TV and catch up on your favourite shows. Follow the flagstone flooring into the kitchen, where the designated chef can whip up something good; there’s plenty of appliances on hand, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and even a dishwasher, so washing up will be a breeze! As you prepare for bed, wash away the day in the shower room before choosing between the family room or double room to catch some rest, both neutrally presented with good storage space. The property opens up to a large lawned where you can enjoy family games and picnics as you watch the boats bob with the tide, while there is also garden furniture for alfresco dining. From the pier you can catch a boat trip out for fishing, or if you’d prefer to stay on land there are plenty of allocated fishing spots in the area. The cottage is also near The Mayo Sailing Club for a range of watersports, as well as golfing and horse-riding opportunities for the outdoor enthusiasts. Hop in the car and head to the town of Westport, home to a wide range of shops, restaurants, pubs and bars. Stop off for a pint of Guinness and catch some traditional Irish music and dancing. For days out with the little ones, head to Westport House, a short 10 mins drive away and adventure park, or explore a little further and visit Achill Island, Ireland’s largest island and home to some of Mayo's most stunning beaches and unspoilt scenery. Here, you are also well-positioned to spend the day in Gallway an hour away, embark on a challenging hike up Croagh Patrick, spend the day along the coast at a selection of fantastic beaches or even travel to the bustling city of Dublin if you're up for the drive! Tom’s Cottage is a welcoming base in a tranquil position, perfect for a getaway in any season.

The well-known town of Westport has a large selection of stores, eateries, pubs, and bars. It also has a vibrant traditional music scene and a strong Irish heritage. The Erriff River, which is about three miles away, the Delphi River, which is about six miles away in the Doolough Valley, and Moher Lake, which is four miles away, are all easily accessible and have fantastic fishing. For those who prefer a good stroll, Croagh Patrick Mountain is close by and offers energising walks and breathtaking views. Locally, there are also designated mountain and forest trails, such as the Tawnyard and Western Way. Why not take a spectacular day trip to County Galway, located a short drive away and boasting stunning coastal scenery and the famed Connemara National Park?

The location was great because in half an hour you could be walking among the hustle and bustle of Westport. We went to Achill Island twice visiting Keem beach. We also visited a bog and went to Ballinrobe races. Then it was lovely to return in the evenings to the fire and the comfy couch.

As soon as we walked in we felt at home. The cottage was beautifully presented and well equipped. It would be perfect for anyone who likes sailing or even just appreciates a stunning view. Hoping to return next year.

Good sized bedrooms and lounge. Great views out over the water and far enough out of Westport to be peaceful but handy(10-15 mins) Ideal spot for discovering the surrounding area
