For a picture-perfect outing, head to Brinkburn Priory (2 miles), a beautifully restored 12th-century church tucked in a bend of the river. A little further afield, discover the breathtaking landscapes of Northumberland National Park (6 miles) where you can hike to your hearts’ content. The pioneering National Trust Cragside House and Estate (7 miles), powered by hydraulics, makes a wonderful option for a day out with its towering trees, tumbling cascades, and welcoming tea room.

On arrival, step inside through a small hallway and find yourself in a stylish open-plan living space that combines the kitchen, dining and lounge areas.
