Pet Friendly Holiday Cottages

If you hold your pet close to your heart then leaving it behind to go on holiday can be an emotional strain, not to mention the hassle and expense of finding a dog-sitter or kennels. When you choose pet friendly holiday cottages you don’t have to worry about any of that, and your four-legged and two-legged family members can enjoy a really special holiday together.

You’ll find lots of pet friendly cottages to choose from, from spacious properties, barn conversions, and farmhouses, to smaller accommodation in remote spots, and near to some great hiking and cycling trails. Pet friendly cottages are more common than you might think and are often the only option if you just can’t bear to leave your dog behind.

Things to do on your pet friendly cottage holiday

Having your dog along for the ride doesn’t have to put limits on your experience. Actually, your dog can make the adventure even more special, as they explore new places, lead you along unspoiled hiking trails, and fill every moment full of love, enthusiasm, and muddy feet!

All along the UK, there are some great spots for pet friendly holidays, not to mention some amazing pet friendly holiday cottages. Head up to Scotland and your dog will be in heaven as they explore the rugged heathland or mountain trails, an exciting mixture of terrain and a big change for dogs that are more used to the patchy grass of the local park!

Head to the South Coast and there are lots of excellent beaches, such as Weymouth or Newquay, just be aware that at certain times of the year access for dogs is restricted. For dogs that have never seen the sea, let alone taken a paddle, a pet friendly cottage holiday by the seaside can be really magical, especially for them!

More pet owners are realising the advantages of pet friendly cottage holidays - the ease and convenience of your own personal space combined with the character and charm or these beautiful buildings – you’d be barking mad not to book!

"Cottage was well supplied with nice little touches like milk and bread available and dog supplies. The utility area was great for cleaning the dog down after walking on the moors and there were plenty of wonderful walks around. The views from the lounge of the cottage were fantastic and there was plenty of birds using the feeders. The cottage is a home and therefore is different from the standard neutrality adopted for most holiday homes, however, it was not overpowering and we got used to it very quickly. Useful to have a decent WiFi signal and Sky signal in case of rain / work commitments. The village pub was dog friendly and served excellent food but we found booking was necessary. The locals were friendly and it is obviously popular with them for picnics next to the river. There is a gate at the top of the stairs which we found very useful for the dog and the garden is fully enclosed so she couldn't wander off. The traffic was minimal even though it was the Easter break and we had no problems travelling around. Not really a downside to this place as the location was great and quiet it was huge for the two of us plus dog (no idea what the spare bedroom is like) and there were 3 toilets! We had a fantastic week there assisted by the glorious weather. Thanks - Martin."

"The accommodation itself was basic but generally clean and comfortable . The patio/ rear outside area was covered in bird droppings and not conducive to sitting outside/eating. possibly unhealthy. The end of the paved area was being used as a dump for old concrete and soil and someone had dumped old chicken bones which could have been harmful for our dog At the front a soil pipe for the associated house was leaking raw sewage. Car parking was confined. The preliminary information said the accommodation was 50 yds from the beach . Although true it did not say that the beaches were closed due to long term renovation work and also dogs are not allowed anyway. This was a big disappointment but we found good dog beach walks at Frinton and Walton on the Naze and south Clackton. It is a pity that the outside of the property was so neglected as a little attention could have given it a much higher rating"

"The cottage is in a wonderful location if you want to spend time with a bigger party of people. The lack of cleanliness was disappointing as it was grubby (light switches and doors were grim and had to spend a lot of time clearing spider webs... the kind of things that don't accumulate in one week) and even a welcoming christmas tree could not make up for this. The electric fuses went off about 3 times and there were a number of bulbs that were out. It is obviously a house that the owners love but not sure if it gets the care it deserves. Parking was great and the owner gave excellent directions. Kitchen lacks some bigger pots for the self-catering enthusiast, especially when cooking for a bigger party. Location was great especially for walking and exploring. "

"S20098 is a beautiful cottage in the middle of a very pretty village and ideal for ramblers, which we are not. There are many lovely places to visit but all require your own transport to reach. The cottage had everything you could wish for, but we personally found it very uncomfortable staying somewhere that was personalised with so many family photos and ornaments everywhere, plus we did not like the fact that the second bedroom was actually locked. The bowl of water left for the four legged member of our family was very welcome as was the breakfast for us. I would have liked the write up to inform us that the owner did not want dogs upstairs, rather than find a notice on entrance to the property. In summary beautiful cottage, just not for us."

"Beautiful house and garden in good location. Overall well equipped, however several light bulbs, including one on a landing, were out, and light switches grubby. A few maintenance issues, particularly with regard to indoor and outdoor furniture, a note on which was left for consideration by the owner. The lack of a toilet/bathroom/shower on the top floor was a problem for those members of our party who slept up there. The vases of daffodils in the house were much appreciated, and the loaf of bread and biscuits were a nice welcome pack. Our party of 10, of all ages, thoroughly enjoyed our week' holiday in this house."
