What our customers say about their holidays

    • Raymond - Verified booking

Our recent stay at the charming holiday property at 4 Ford Street was an absolute blast.

Let's kick things off with the accommodation. The bedrooms were like fluffy clouds of comfort, perfect for sinking into after a day of adventure. And speaking of adventure, the addition of a single sofa bed in the main bedroom was a stroke of genius – our four-legged companions claimed it as their own personal throne! Now, onto the amenities – prepare to be amazed! The kitchen was so well-equipped, it could have given a professional chef a run for their money. But the real highlight of our stay? The K9 Dog grooming service in Lanchester High Street. Our furry friends came back looking like they just stepped out of a doggy spa – talk about pampered pooches! Now, let's talk about parking – or should I say, parking gymnastics? The space outside was snugger than a pair of skinny jeans, but fear not! we mastered it in the end thanks to reversing cameras. Parking on visits to walking spots was far easier. On the best day out we parked up at Pow Hill Country Park Car Park for free and embarked on a magical walk around Derwent Reservoir. Picture this: two and a half miles of scenic bliss, with water views that would make even a mermaid jealous. We made our way to the visitor centre, where we indulged in some well-earned refreshments – because let's face it, walking is thirsty work! But the adventure didn't stop there. On our way back, we swung by the dog playing field just outside the visitor centre. Let's just say our furry companions had the time of their lives – and by the time we got back to the property, they were out like a light! In summary, our stay at 4 Ford Street was nothing short of epic. From the cosy accommodation to the doggy adventures, every moment was filled with laughter and joy. A huge thank you to the owners for providing such a paws-itively wonderful experience! Here's to making memories that will last a lifetime!

Overall we were very satisfied with the cottage.

Apart from the issues we discussed with both Sykes and the owner it was a nice stay. A very nice touch to arrive to a gift basket! Decent parking space at the front of the property lovely views to the rear and the cottage was tastefully decorated and even had Halloween pumpkins etc for us as our stay co-incided with Halloween. If we had to point out any slight negatives the toilet flush was faulty and so after flushing you had to lift the handle otherwise the water would continue to flow, Downstairs there was no clothes airer to dry clothes with (minor point) but as there were no blinds at the back windows it did feel a little like living in a gold fish bowl. Fine for your morning views but not so great at night with the lights on when people walking dogs can see right in which brings me on to the hot tub. As there is no outdoor cover as soon as you walked back into the house there was no where to get changed or dry off… you were straight into the kitchen. Luckily there was a stone floor but we had to make sure we had towels at the ready so as not to drip through the house. Plenty of games for rainy days though which was great. Overall we had a nice stay,

We had a great Time at Dale cottage, after we had realised that there are 2 ingleton’s!

One in Darlington & 1 in Yorkshire , we thought we were going to Yorkshire, but to be honest it worked out much better as the places we wanted to visit were closer, Richmond, Bernard castle,Whitby, Durham to mention a few , There is also a village pub The Black horse which serve Italian food really good & the neighbors both side of the cottage were very friendly we were given some lovely apples from one of t their orchards. We arrived to a welcome basket of goodies & bottle of prosecco and some dog treats very kind, the cottage was well maintained & was to a very high standard. There was everything you wanted in there , plenty of kitchen equipment, coffee machine. it was very comfortable & the hot tub was a real bonus ,it was spotlessly clean throughout. Which is exactly what you want. The only downside which is not Dale cottage fault we’re the amount of flies , apparently there had been loads I read an article in Darlington post , but having said that I would recommend the property & would like to go back there another time many thanks Dale Cottage

We had a lovely stay at dale cottage!

It was everything we expected and more. It had a lot of kitchen supplies that many other places we’ve been too didn’t have. It was cosy and a lovely home from home. The views around were spectacular and it was such a high standard. The only down side was that there were soooo many flys although that isn’t the owners fault I would definitely recommend taking some fly spray if you do stay. Also it’s only a really small freezer box at the top of the fridge and I would highly suggest to the owners to get a larger freezer as there is plenty of space and we ended up having to throw a lot of food away that we had bought due to the freezer not being big enough. A holiday for a week I expected to be able to by food and having somewhere to store it however this wasn’t the case. Also I’d suggest to get some nice outside furniture as although the weather was lovely the seating area was really uncomfortable to sit on. Other than those minor issues it was lovely and I would 100% recommend xxxx

We have stayed in a lot of Sykes properties over the years, but this was one of the very best.

The house has been refurbished to a really high standard while retaining its countryside charm. It was very well-equipped. Sofas and beds were extremely comfortable. We loved the little touches such as the decorated Easter tree and the welcome pack. There is a window seat on the landing that makes the most of the beautiful views to the rear of the property. I happily sat here taking it all in with my morning coffee before anyone else was up! Hot tub was fabulous after a day's walking. The Black Horse pub is just a short stroll away and serves excellent food. There is a decent playground over the road that our 9-year-old thoroughly enjoyed. The owners have even provided a small custom-made Ordnance Survey map with Dale cottage right in the centre so you can enjoy walks from the house. There are some games and children's books for rainy days. The locals are so friendly and everyone says hello. Overall, we had a fabulous stay, thank you!
