What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Mullett - Verified booking

We stayed at Bramble cottage and were welcomed by freshly baked cake made by the owner. A little touch but very much appreciated. The cottage is a upside down layout with kitchen and lounge upstairs and the bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs. The main bedroom has a shower room and the other twin bedroom uses the main bathroom with bath and no shower. The outside has a gas bbq and sitting area which was nice for having meals and drinks when the weather allows. Cottage was well equipped and generally clean throughout which made our stay a delight. Location wise its not for the faint hearted if you planning on walking into Lynton but if you want to walk into Exmoor it is ideally located. I would definitely stay there again if we were to base ourselves in that locale again.

Great property, the steps up to it from the road weren’t a problem and the car park space was close enough.

On arrival we did question what we had booked, we noticed that the front windows were dirty (there had been storms, but the house keeper could have wiped them over) and the patio furniture was very rusty, but once inside things improved immensely. We very much enjoyed our stay. However, we found getting the temperature of the shower in the bathroom difficult to control and the wall bracket holding the shower head had one screw to hold it in place, so if you held the shower by hand the wall bracket would turn over. We also found the water temperature to the kitchen sink variable. After a short burst of hot water it quickly ran to like warm. A colander would be useful. None of the above particularly affected our stay, but worth noting all the same.

Apparently, following some redecoration, the property had been left without heat for some days and was very cold and still with out any heating on when we arrived.

In our view, the electric wall mounted heaters would never be adequate in early spring, winter and late autumn mainly because of the high pitched ceilings in the living room and bedroom[i.e. heat rises].The wood burning stove is nice idea and very fashionable but, in practise, was difficult to light and 'ate' wood with out adding much to the warmth of the main living and sleeping areas. If the current system is going to be retained we suggest in the cold season a good electric fan heater is provided in lieu of the log burner. We,in fact, left a day early to avoid another evening and night at Beech cottage. The enormous TV was also much too big for a small living room.

We stayed at Beech Cottage for a 5 day break around New Year.

Very nice location in quiet lane overlooking lovely countryside. The log burner was most welcome . We took our dog Bueno with us , who enjoyed some great walks. We also took our bikes & dog trailer which Debbie, owner kindly let us store in her garage. You do need to take a torch with you, as the one in the cottage isn't great. There wasn't a comments book in the cottage, so could you please pass on our thanks for the prosecco Debbie left for us. A really enjoyable stay lucky too with the weather only rain once. Note to Sykes Holidays. Your paperwork stated contact for keys Lucy Watkins, this is incorrect. Its Debbie Potter although tel number is as you say
