    • Miss Turner - Verified booking

The house has Whitewalls plastered in the sides so you really can't miss it (I don't mean in a bad way) Very snug cottage, Just off a main road, I am used to living near a main road so I didn't really hear the traffic myself. Wth Snape Maltings just up the road and a tescos and asda I believe in Saxmundham and a petrol station just up the road it was the perfect base point. Aldeburgh is 20 minutes away and I woild highly reccomend going to a sweet tearooms in Dunwich called Dingle Hill. It's a beautiful place, which a little beach that you just wouldn't think to there in such a sqaint little village. It has a museam and a beautiful pub along with Grey Friars Medieval Friary Ruins. Going back to the house. 1 Pub directly opposite (The Crown), the other a 2 minute walk round the corner (The Golden Key) also has a bottle bank at the back. Garden is completely enclosed, but if you have a dog that enjoys clearing a 4/5ft wall, you may have a problem. Thankfully although mine can, they didn't see it as a challenge. The garden is a good size for two dogs of any size. I stayed with my Kelpie and Mini Poodle for a visual. I came with my mum and my grandmother joined us later in the evening. You would probably be able to fit two small cars and still close the gates. For us on the other hand, we have one small car (Ford focus) and an estate. So we closed the gates into the end of the car and again, my dogs thankfully didn't see it as a challenge. The only negative for us was: The cottage WiFi isn't great, so if you had planned on using the Internet best hope you have good 4/5G. Its alright if you are in the living room where the WiFi is but anywhere else in the house, I can only wish you the best of luck. We were able to connect all our Internet using devices, but upstairs was definetly a no go and would quickly switch them over to mobile data. The house is well equipt in the kitchen, pots and pans, oven mits, tea towels etc. I would reccomend bringing your own fly swat if you are staying in the summer you will need one and maybe your own scrubbing sponge for washing up as you are only offered one, other than that, the most equipt house we have stayed in. We stayed during the 2022 heat wave week reaching 40° and the house kept our two dogs nice a cool through it due to the stone flooring, the kitchen has a sliding door to block them off if you want to, which we did as the door leading from the kitchen to the garden have no blinds so it got quite hot in the kitchen along with us cooking lunch. There is a dog stair gate barrier at the stairs so easy to block the dogs off from there. For dog walking; (if you want a walk close to home hue first night) if you exit the cottage and take a right after 4 - 5 houses, turn right again and you can walk around that field. For us a tractor sat in the field and was a good indicator we had reached the correct point - I was told about this via speaking to a neighbour opposite, a lovely Swedish lady. The second walk is turning left and crossing the road, walking down it until you see the footpath sign on the right, from there you can walk down, reaching the bottom, and either walk to Aldeburgh or walk to Snape Warren, a beautiful woods and incredibly peaceful, there are live stock fields filled with horses, sheep and cows so please be mindful if you are walking with dogs. This walk if you choose to keep going will also walk you to ending up at Snape Maltings, you can also do the walk back to front and start at The Maltings. A third is turning left and walking up the hill to the top and turning right, you will see a footpath sign, it is a quiet road and at the end there is a little woods, I didn't venture past the woods and behind the tiny woods is a road. My dogs don't leave my sight and wonder off but for other owners I would warn just be cautious. There are other footpaths dotted around, there are quite a few along the road heading up the hill and onwards and another foot path on the right just before Snape Maltings, I didn't get to go up the other ones. But I hope the few I have mentioned will help people. I hope you enjoy Whitewalls as much as we did.

The cottage was freezing when we arrived so we spent the first night in coats.

The welcome pack was nice and included ground coffee but no cafetiere or anything to make it with. I rang the number but they were no help. I did find a cocktail shaker with a dead fly in it though. The TV batteries were dead and no spares in the man drawer. There are CDs but no CD player, videos but no video player. There are candles dotted around but the instruction booklet said candles weren't allowed. The kitchen could have done with scissors and tongs. The downstairs shower room never got warm enough to use. Some of the curtains could have done with being a bit shorter so they would fit behind the radiators better. The cold water feed in the upstairs bathroom was worse than the hot water feed. There was a freezer but it was in an outside shed so probably wouldn't work in cold weather. The drive is constructed such that you scrape the bottom of the car on entering. I had to park in an unlit road. To get recycling instructions you had to type in a long URL to get to the county council information. I didn't bother. The cottage itself was fabulous. Uneven floors, small doors, cosy rooms; all quaint features you'd expect from a 17th century building. It is barely overlooked. The garden is huge. It's nice to see they've not sold it off. There's a lookout table and chairs at the highest point, but you have to avoid the dog pooh on the steps.

This is a beautiful eco house with a private garden (perfect for our 2 dogs) surrounded by 5 acres of the Suffolk countryside. It was suitable for our needs having 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms. The kitchen was stocked with everything you may need including home made scones and homemade conserves and honey ( from the owners own hives), delicious. It is very peaceful with a big playground across the track for children. Views of the orchard with apples and pears, hollyhocks and wild flowers everywhere was lovely. Very close to the CC campsite for groups of friends with caravans or campers. The owners live next door but were not intrusive and were extremely helpful. Internet is available and also games, boules and a small library. Everything you need for a wonderful holiday without leaving the grounds. We would highly recommend this cottage.

A thoroughly enjoyable and welcoming place to stay and in a fantastic location.

The property was as described and offered many features and comforts; the little cosy lounge was exceptionally lovely to chill-out in after exploring the Suffolk countryside. The reception pack of wine and fresh bread etc was a lovely thought and most welcome. The only minor issue we had was with the ramp to the gravel driveway. As soon as the front wheels got on to the gravel, there was insufficient support and the car bottomed out scraping the ridge. Either the ramp is slightly too steep or the first foot or so of the gravel drive needs to be reinforced. However, this was easily overcome as there was sufficient room to park outside the lovely entrance gate to the property on the roadside. No doubt though, I would highly recommend this charming property to others for an ideal location to base your travels around mid & south Suffolk.
